I just got a new tow rig.Its a 88 chevy c&C truck with a service body..Im gonna pull the body off and build a flatbed to save some lbs.It has a 454 tbi, th400 and np205 in it.It needs some work but i dont want to rebuild the rear brakes. It needs drums, cylinders and shoes. I was thinking of running the 3/4 ton rear disc setup and swapping in some van hubs.I want to keep it a dually and im thinking the hubs would make it more stable and give me room for bigger rear tires..

Do you guys think that the rear discs would not be good for towing up to 7500 or 8k lbs? I think id be fine but want to be sure.

i personally wouldnt do it. the huge dually C&C drums will stop your truck better than any easily swapable single piston disc brake. my 7200# dually crewcab will stop my 7000# or so trailer just fine without the trailer brakes working.

unloaded, it prolly stops better than my disc braked scout truggy(both 14 bolt rears).

id strongly reccomend to replace wheel cylenders, shoes, and whatever else may need attention and adjuxt them properly and youll have plenty of stopping power.

X2. I've got rear drums on my chevy and hated them at first but put a HEAVY load on them and they are much more fade resistant then the discs. Only issue I have is jobsites and mud getting packed in them.

Yeah i figured that..Im not sure if i want to loose stopping power..Im trying to be realistic with the truck. As much as i want to build the hell outta it im sure it will wind up with a restoed interior and a flatbed to tow..I think i will save the rear 3/4 ton discs for the woods truck
