: Anti-wrap bar

I took the rig out yesterday and I am definately going to have to build an antiwrap bar. I've read about the slip bars and the shackle bars, so what kind should I build.

The slip bar tends to bend after time. I would recommend a shackle type.

I read that some antiwrap bars could actually cause wheel hop, that is exactly what I am trying to stop, have you guy's had any experiance with this.

I don't know that it would cause wheel hop. I would say that it decreases spring wrap. Spring wrap causes wheel hop. Anti wrap bar and shocks is what limits wheel hop.
Notice that I say "Limits". A leaf spring rig is going to wheel hop on some climbs no matter what you do.

Ive run 1 slip, and several shackle type. No question, go shackle style!

Post a lot of pics. I need to do this in December. No time now.

I have used both and both work well. Slide type needs periodic maintenance. Make sure you engineer it properly or it will limit suspension movement.

Where are you mounting the front of the bar? I can't run mine all the way to the rear of the front seats because of my floor. I was thinking about going to the front of the spring hanger. Is this location far enough from the axle to do the job?

I was told the longer and flatter you could get the traction bar the better it would work. I built the shackle type and it's worked great. The top bar is about 48" long on mine and probably around 10-15* in angle. The shackle mount on the front is welded to the flat belly skid and uses a bushing.

Made from 1 7/8's DOM (Had it so I used it) and JJ's on all 3 points. I made the joint in the middle for the lower leg with so it was adjustable so installation would be easier. (Tried it solid and when welding it drew up to much from the heat and I couldn't get the bolts lined up with the JJ's and the bracket etc)

Hope that helps.

Is it necessary to use flex joints on the axle or would barrel bushings work fine?

I think a flex joint on the front would be plenty. I know a lot of people run them like that.

Did you use 120 wall or .250 to build your antiwrap bar?

i used a flex joint on the top and bushings on the bottom, there starting to spit out on me now, i think i might try and swap in a metal sleeve with the bushings now. i also used some pipe i hade kicking around hair over 1/8 and i have a nice bend in it already..still works well..http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r316/the-t-man/f-toy150.jpg

dont have any real good pics of it..

I've only got about 30'' from the axle mount to the shackle mount, so that means my anti-wrap bar will only be about 30'' long, is that long enough?

Anyone running their wrap bar mounts on the spring hanger? I thought that Matts was built that way, but haven't seen any others. Anyone have some pics of the front mounts?

Ideally getting the bar center of the axle is best, but the 3rd is there. So as close to center as possible, I like them where the 3rd almost hits the bracket on removal. Up top is too high, and will cause squating typically.

Mine. Next time I'm going to try and make it longer.

and a couple pics of the diff brackets. 10 gauge cold rolled with 10 gauge reinforcements on the bolt holes. still working good.

I like the looks of that one. How about pics of the mounts on the other end?

I'll have to look tonight on my other computer. I just went with your typical shackle mount.
