I've searched, but lost my patience. Could someone post up some pics of weld-on caliper brackets on a 14 bolt for me? Please. I'd be interested to see the aa-mfg brackets welded on, or any other bracket for that matter. Thanks.

yup, I have thought about bolt-on brackets, and I'm still thinking about it, that's why I'd like to see pics of the weld-on brackets. I'm one of those poor students, so $50-100 is a lot of money to me, and weld-on seems to be a lot cheaper, even if they require more time. My time isn't that valuable. :D

yeah i know what you mean. i picked mine up off of a guy sell'n them on ebay for 60 bucks.... he normaly has a bunch in stock and always has a auction going with them. it was a no brainer install except for needing to add a washer to the back of the bracket vs touch'n the pad with the grinder.

I don't have a "weld on" kit but it is a easy bolt on. Look at my site and you will see how they mount......:D

Shaker I'm assuming that your kit is for the single rear wheel application. Do you make a kit for the cab & chassis 14 bolt which is 4" narrower between the wheel mounting surfaces?

This is Shakers kit. Really stout. I'm almost done with the conversion and they work great.

I prefer the ones with a solid spacer instead of the four individual ones. I've seen ones with only two bolt-on locations, they ripped off. I figure the solid spacer gives it a little more rigidity. I bought mine for $100 from Brian Derby (Derbinator) on CK5. They were $100 also. I just sent the money a week ago and haven't gotten them in yet, but I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I have a C&C dually and there is no way to fit the bolt on brackets without using a HUGE spacer.

These are the AA brackets for under $10. They were slightly short so I had to lengthen them for 3/4 ton rotors.

Yes my kit is "currently" for the single rear wheel but as soon as I can get time I will work on a kit for the dually rear. I am currently making a seperate "plate" that will be 1 piece so you can have the "option" to have the 4 spacers or the 1 solid plate to mount the kit.

I knew a guy who put these on his 14 bolt.....yes they were cheap and they worked for a few trails then he ripped/tore 1 mount off......they are some thin material......Good luck...

They are 1/4". I have yet to run mine yet, so I can't comment on the durability. When I extended them I used some extra 3/8 plate I had laying around. Which should provide some extra strength.

How thick are the ones that you make?

Or go here (http://www.alaskaoffroad.com/axle_tech.htm) to make your own brackets. There is a desctiption about half way down the page that I wrote for a guy asking the same questions a few months ago.

Brook

ps. there is nothing wrong with the kits you can buy from the guys here, but if you are willing, its more satisfying to make your own.

Not knocking your kit at all - looks good - but I have to call bullshit on this!

You telling me he ripped the 1/4 plate steel?

Otherwsie I reckon it was crappy welding, crappy placement and / or really crappy driving. Think about this - you think a trail rig exhibits more braking force than a stock car - that's who the aa, AFCO, BRP, etc. brackets are made for.

Not to mention the thickness of bazillions of Jeep and Chevy D44 FRONT caliper brackets stock is no more than 1/4" and the front sees 70%+ of the braking force.

Buddy did a crappy job there my friend - doesn't mean the product is no good.

I'm just telling you what I saw......I'm not gonna get in a "pissing contest" with ya. I know there are all kinds of "external" factors that were possible. So relax.........Later-Tim/Shaker

see the single washer there with the big thick spacers.... thats all i needed to make the setup work without shaving the pads.

looks like you have about 3 /16 s of adjustment left ... you shouldnt have needed the washers.

No shit! I couldn't care less about about a pissing contest - I'm after tech info. Could you elaborate a little more on exactly what you saw - so I can decide how / where / if to strengthen / gusset my 1/4" AFCO brackets when I mount them? Jus wanna take advantage of your first hand experience.

Bill I just welded AA brackets on my 44 tubes tonight as a matter of fact.
One...I suck at arc welding, but they are on there...solidly.

Two...I dont see needing a gusset really, the 1/4" material is very stiff, as good as stock stuff really.
It shoudlnt bend all that much anyway...the caliper is sandwiched around the rotor, the force of the piston might cycle it back and forth slightly, but I'd wager that really wont make any difference.

If people are breaking these weld on brackets off...the welds must suck or they are taggin them on stuff.
