just bought a 95 f350 with a 460 and the auto tranny.
drove it home fine 45 miles, drove it around town 10 miles or so no problem.
sataday I drove it to work about 5 miles into the trip it started spitting ans spurding like it was out of gas. after I got it back up to speed it ran the rest of the way fine another 25 miles. when I left work I drove about 20 miles and it did it again but this time it cut off and would start up but would not idle, I could rev it slowly but it would not do it with it in gear. I waited about 4 hours, put new battery termnals on it it ran fine. today I drove it to work fine and made it all the way to the house then it died again and wont restart.
it also has a couple very large puffs of smoke along the way home at random and the motor and the power did not change, I do have a oil leak that might have driped on the exhaust.

It sat for 2 hours and it started fine and I drove it back to the house.
I pulled the codes
12
15
58
62
55
14
what does this mean this is code 14 and I think my problem
Two or more successive erratic Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred, resulting in a possible engine miss or stall.

There is a PIP sensor on the dis.

I just went through this on my 96 F350.

It gets worn out, and messes with the ignition when good and warm, cuts off and disrupts the signal to the computer or something like that.

Mine would stall any time, any speed, sometimes idling, once warm.

I don't know the codes, but I chased it down on a Ford site. I opted to replace the whole distributor instead of just doing the sensor alone and taking the time to dismantle the distributor.

I dropped in a Napa complete distributor with sensor already on and the truck has run like a champ.

Hope it helps.

Pull the codes again. You should be getting three digit codes. Two digit codes were for the 91 and earlier f-series/broncos. http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=45

Just curious if you've figured out what's wrong? Did you change the dizzy out? I have a 97 F350 w/a 460 and am having exactly the same issues. I only drive it around town short distances anymore (5-10 miles). Last couple of times I tried to go say 20-40 miles, it would start acting like it was running out of fuel or only firing on a couple of cylinders, very much like you described. No codes of any use and after the truck cooled down, it would be fine...
