I made myself a POB tool mainly because I think its cool to make tools but how the heck do I use this thing? Thats probably a dumb question. Somebody walk me through it with a simple b-piller hoop?

Clamp it on your tube and put on your angle finder. Set your bracket so that your angle finder reads 0 degrees. For a simple hoop keep the same degree (0*) for each bend. That will keep it in the same plane. If you rotate the tube you will be out of plane.

Next time make a simple tool that you know how to use. :flipoff2: LOL

I got one of Captains digital POB brackets. Here is a link to help you out:

I guess the trick is where do you put it and thinking through it I guess you would put it on the end of the tube (opposite of where your bends start) that way you wouldn't have to re-position it each time.
I knew it was dumb question.

There are no dumb questions, only smartassed answers. Unless, you ask something in the hardcore jeep section on Tuesday on pirate4x4.com. I love this board.

Slide the end in and get it nice and tight. Then kink your tube.

That is a good homemade version.

Say you have a 2 bend piece that is shaped like a "U". The first leg heads straight right horizontally. The second leg heads straight at your face, and the third leg heads back left and upwards 45*. You would put your clamp on the middle piece that heads straight at you, and before you clamped it down in the bender you would rotate it until your angle finder read 45*.

I also use them on pieces like such, to make sure all bends stay on the same plane:

You can tell how good you are when you lay it on the ground, no wobble means your good! :D

On pieces that have multiple plane of bends, I've found myself removing the tool and putting it on the leg you just bent while it is tight in the die set at 90. This way you can index to the next bend.

excellent. I just built an anchor to take out the wobbles ... hopefully now I won't have much to do.

thanks guys
