I am toying around with the idea of making a work bench tool holder, the idea behind this is to free up some of the clutter that is always on the work bench. Ground clamps, anti spatter spray, vice-grips, grinder.....

This plate would attach to the edge of your work bench and hang down below the top surface , it would be made out of 1/8" steel.

I am looking for input

1) What else would you look for in this tool that is not provided.

2) If I were to produce this item would you buy it if it were to sell for ~$30.

Thanks Troy

I don't see a hammer holder.

Looks good so far, what about a pencil/sharpie holder?

BFH hole
Slot to hold at least one extra grinder/cutoff discs

Pretty slick idea, I'd buy one if it didn't cost a fortune to ship it across the US...

multi grinder holders
I have 3
grind disk
flap
cut off
slot for dikes to trim off mig wire

will the cans even stay there like that?
looks like they will fall right out when moving around if hooked to a cart, mine will be on cart

That's the problem, I created the part above in front of the computer and not standing infront of my work bench........

I obsereved my work bench and found the following:
Tape measure
BFH
Sharpie
Nozzle Dip
Anti Spatter
ViseGrips
Small T square
3 magnetic angle jobbies
Mig Nozzle and ground
Plasma Nozzle and ground
3 4.5" grinders
Grinder nut removal tool
Extra grinding disks
Dikes
Safety glasses
large Common screwdriver
3" air cut off wheel.

Anything else I am missing?

Might as well bolt a top chest to your table!

The only problem I see is the fact that we all already have tool boxes for all that chit, and or roll around carts and we dont use them at all now(hince all the chit on the table). Truefully dont think it would be used....Do I believe people would buy one..yes..especially for 30 bones...its a new gadget, and as men...we love new gadgets....but real world, I dont think it would get used because the simple fact is..it is much easier to just lay chit on your table and then go grab it when you need it...I always bitch that I cant find stuff after I have laid it around, then I go clean it all up and put it where it goes, and 3 days later its back to the same messes....

A new improved one I would buy. I even like the current one. It just needs more grinder slots . I will install on my welding cart.

I almost think just something with grinder slots in it (2-3), ground clamp spots and welder/plasma gun holders would really be all I'm looking for. My biggest peeve with my current work bench is the grinders and cables all get tangled together. Cans and pliers and such can sit on top w/ no problems.

I agree with several others. How about a ginder holder for 3 grinders with a peg on the side for the disk removal tools and 2-5 pegs above for extra wheels, disks, wirebrushes, etc.

If you really wanted to get creative you could have a way to wrap up the cords.

Also if there was a small holder that held:
1-2 pairs safety goggles
earplug box
small notepad
2-3 pens/markers
ruler/square

I think it could be done in about a 4-6" package. If they were cheap enough I would get 1-2 for every wall in the garage. I am always looking for this stuff.

I'll buy but only if it's a TV special at $19.99 and I get 1 for free for just shipping and handling. Plus a free shammy

:flipoff2: That is the risk I run, when asking for advise

Ditch the spraycan holders. They don't look like they would work very well, and it's an accident waiting to happen. Make a separate holder if you want to make something for spraycans. I made my own torch holders, and I keep my spraycans in a seperate cabinet so I really wouldn't have a use for your product.

P.S. What is an "arc nozzel"?

The only thing I need on the side of my workbench is grinder holders, and that's accomplished w flat bar.

I built something kinda sorta like what you show for the side of my MIG (Hobart 210). Everytime I'd go to wrap the ground and lead around the welder I'd knock the wire brush and wire cutters to the floor - drove me nuts. I still need a spot for the anti-spatter (or a can of Pam) and the tip cleaner.

WD40 at a welding table? No thanks. Accident waiting to happen. Ditch the can holders.

What about us Stick guys? Wire brush and Chipping hammer holder?
I believe the rest has been said...

Either way, I don't find myself using that unless it was after a job and I was cleaning up. I usually throw things on the table or on top of the welder while I am working on something.

I buy cheap used roller cabinets from the tool truck guys for separate oeprations. The next two will have one to bolt a dedicated drill press to for tube notching and another for a welder cart.

I see a lot of pretty carts but wonder if the maker doesn't have more $ in stock and lots of hours in fab work, when I've gotten the same thing in the form of a small $200 used Mac or Snap-On roller cabinet.

you may want to make a few different models
if you do everything listed, not sure it would fit on an 8 foot bench:D
make them small
make them cheap
profit
get rich:D

A couple of differant versions would be good, one for 3 grinders plus wheels, one or two versions for welding and maybe one for hammers, screwdrivers, visegrips, etc.

Hard to tell in the drawing but will the grinder be below the table surface? If not I see it being more in the way than if it was on top of the table.

That's the problem I see, way too much crap on that thing. No way would I put one on the front of my welding table, and the side of mine is only 3ft, take up about 20" for grinders, 8" for spray cans, like a foot just for all my welders, pretty soon it's wrapping my whole table.

Make them modular and compact, also make them that hold all the random shit around the shop. I'd want them for all that stuff that just doesn't go in a tool box.

Another neat option is being magnetic. Hand a little lower and have the back a flat magnet.

definitely pen/pencil holder, maybe something to hold loose bolts/nuts that you are taking off whatever you are working on? I just put those on the bench then spend 15 minutes trying to figure out where the little fawkers rolled after i knocked them off :D

I just have a bar on mine to hold clamps and vise-grips, everything else will go on the welder cart.

FYI, for those of you with multiple grinders, an easy & convenient way to get them out of the way is to bend a 2' long section of 1/2" round bar so it's got short legs (3"?) on either end. Then drill some 1/2" holes the same spacing into the front face of your workbench (or weld it on). You can hang your grinders by the disc/shield on these.

i say raise the price and intern they are all custom. their are many diff options and holders to choose from then the customer will pay per item/holder they choose. in what ever combo they need. so lay out desins for individual items that are off the same base plate and you get what im gettin at?

your vice grip holder: is it for the c frame style and to hang them, or are you going to clamp them on?

if they are for c frames hanging i think you need to make the slot opening bigger and maybe bent to a 45* out

the wd40/aresol holders: is there going to be a retaining ring or mount or something?

the grinder holder: will it fit with the guard or do you not need a guard like the majority of real world users?

add:

gimble monted beer holder with sheild to keep grinder dust out.

hooks off the grinder side for bfh.

semi circle cut out for beer bottel popper.

Scanned the first page - what about C Clamps?

Something you can fit a 4" to say 8" clamp to hang on to.
