After breaking my birf 10 minutes into my first rock crawlin fun I have started looking at my options on axles. I run the dunes alot so I don't really want to go any heavier. So I talked to spider trax and asked bout birf. rings they said it moves the weak point to the axle instead of the birf. Then I asked them bout the warn hubs anf fuses. I know they were designed to run on a 297 style U-joint but I think they might work and so did spider trax. What do you all think, and I am lookin for a response other then just buy some yotas.:flipoff2:

I ran rings for almost a year and a half. They work. When I went to 33 x 15.50 SX's my axles shafts started to twist so it was only a matter of time. I eventually got a tire wedged while trying to back up and popped a front axle shaft. I think the rings are a good way to go if you keep your tire sizes reasonable and pay attention to where your tires are, If you get wedged, break out the hi-lift/winch/whatever, just don't try to drive it out. I haven't heard anything good about the fuses. I saw one break while a friend was idling up a waterfall, that convinced me I didn't want them.

I run the Birfield rings by Breeze and was on it pretty hard
this weekend I didnt blow the axle or the birf but literaly sheered
the hub bolts off the short side front drove back to camp extracted the studs put new studs and cone washers on and good to go and yes these are stock sami axles

I've sheared off those hub bolts too. It was on the long side though.:D

I am running the spidertrax rings along with their high-strength hub bolts with copious amounts of lock'em tight. So far so good.

seems like I'd rather shear those bolts than an axle.

Were the bolts left in the hub "easy-out-able"??

Maybe I'll make the bolts purposely shearable with a notch!
and use lots o antisiez too...

mmm...just how shearable?!! ...is the question

can u buy shear bolts at a specified strength?

and I guess you have to take torque divided by 6 bolts?
