I was just wondering, if you were to build a tube rock buggy, like a competition rig, could you tag it as a trailer to make it legal to flat tow on the street. I know a green sticker vehicle has to have all 4 wheels off the ground, and i know it would be all but impossible to get a single seater rock buggy legal in CA so what about just tagging it as a trailer? As long as it never actually drives on the street i dont see why not? are there rules against this?

I think the fact it COULD drive on the street under its own power would eliminate that idea.

in that case how can you make it legal to flat tow a totally non street legal rock buggy?

hmmm.

I would buy a trashed something or other, and license the buggy as the POS. Part the POS.

but then, I can do that in SD.

hehe might work for you....

here if it has a tag it gets inspected, may not need a sniff but gets "looked at"

I had considered having my dad in FL register it but he said the lady had to comeone and "verify" the vin on his car...

id say a cheep o trailer would be a good solution...

my 6x12 wodden deck util trailer was only like $1k (no brakes when i got it) but it weighs only ~1000lbs... (fits zuke great)

just somthing to consider....

You're wrong about flat towing a Green Sticker vehicle. I went through this a few years ago with the DMV and even bought the vehicle code book. The cops may not even be aware that it is permissible to flat tow an off-highway vehicle. Of course, you must be towing with a street legal vehicle and must have the necessary trailering lights. I think you're also supposed to have safety chains. I usually manage to forget those for quick trips to Hollister Hills.

I only flat tow for short distances. If I'm going farther, I put it on the flatbed trailer.
