Flipping channels the other night and started watching some infomercial on this saw horse vise bench by Rockwell. I modified and abuse the ever living fawk out of me B&D workmate and I'm thinking this may make a fine replacement.

Even has a welding apparatus part holder thingy attachment (sold separate of course)

Maybe a repost but I don't have time right now to look:flipoff2:

Neat idea, but for $180 you could make 3 or 4 of them pretty easily

I saw the tail end of the commercial and thought it was a pretty cool idea. I'd be interested in trying one out.

NOT!!! ^

I got this thing the other day and haven't put it through it's paces yet but they don't lie about the grip the vise has:eek:

Pretty beefy tool and folds up easily for storage.

I've been using an older B&D Workmate that has been abused way beyond what it was designed for. I replaced the boards on it over the years with some 2" thick oak ones. It has worked out pretty good for holding shit to fab on it but it's getting really tired.

I think this Jawhorse will replace it with better versatility. The vise alone is a major upgrade. I got the welding kit for it which comes with V grooved aluminum vise plates in place of the orig HD rubber inserts.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase. I'll post up photos of it next to the old tired B&D WM.

Nice. Been looking forward to reading a PBB-style review about one.

I am at school about 8 hours from access to any of the shops i'm used to. I'm going nuts not having stuff to work on occasionally so I've been thinking about setting up a mini shop to screw around with for a couple hours on the weekends of non-exam weeks. With this thing, I think I could get by without building a tiny work bench (which I really have no room for). I think I could even make a baseplate for my HF mini-lathe and clamp it in there.

Some pictures of it in action would be awesome.

Some photos of it next to my tired B&D WM. No shots of using it yet - haven't needed to use it just yet.

I have a small garage and my Workmate is destroyed. This thing looks cool. Question, how do you think it would do for holding on of those vertical portaband adaptor plates the vendor here on pirate is selling? Is the unit heavy enough to support the saw and the parts you are working on without getting off balance?

I would say yes, it's way more stable then my workmate is believe it or not and the vise makes the WM's pathetic.

I used it some tonight for a little bit and it worked great so far.
