Not sure what the problem is, but there is a lot of slop in my transmission due to me slapping it back and forth really hard. This has been really annoying, but I've dealt with it because I fucked it up and didn't want to put the effort into fixing it since it was bearable. Now, 1st gear has gone out and I'm pretty sure my clutch and other gears are on their way out, too.

I think I read that 88 f150's come with the mazda m50d tranny? If so, I've also read that they are pretty much garbage. Since fixing 1st gear, getting a new clutch, and still possibly having to fix other gears in the tranny once they go out would be expensive, I was thinking about swapping in another transmission. I believe I have read that the ZF5 is a good swap for this truck? This leaves me with some questions.

1. Is the zf5 a good swap for this truck?
2. Is the zf5 a manual?
3. What will I need to do to swap in a zf5.
4. Where can I find a zf5?
5. What other tranny's are available that would be a good swap into this truck?
