I have a NP208 in my 82 F150. It is kicking out of 4wd (in both high and low range). It is backing a 460/NP435. I am having some issues finding a replacement tcase, so I am considering a 205 swap. I know this will be a stronger tcase, but this truck is just going to push a snow plow during the snow months in Colorado. It currently has a fixed rear yoke on the 208.

Does anyone know if the 205 will bolt up to the 435, or do I need a different adapter? Are the drivelines about the same length (within 1" - 2"), or will I have to have them redone?

Does anyone have a spare 208 laying around? :D

It will bolt up to the transfer case but the drive shafts will need to be changed and the shifter linkage is different.

drivelines are about 8" different, 205 is shorter.

A lot of times when the 208 starts to kick out is because the nylon guides on the shift forks are shot and/or the detent ball is worn. They're both pretty easy fixes and worth looking into, but the guides do invovle splitting the case.

How about the BW cases? Are they similar to the 208?

The BG and NP 208 are about the same. I pulled my NP 205 in favor of a BG transfer case for the less weight and lower gearing. The BG Case has been tuffer than i expected. I have found some differences in the BG outputs in the past as far as splines. They had the same spline counts but different shape splines and they would not interchange.
