Has anyone done this? I searched and didn't find anything helpful. My buddy is thinking about buying the kit and I thought you guys might have some kind of feedback on the idea. Thanks!

A few people on this bored have messed with the kit and unless they have changed the kit it is a bunch of parts that still need alot of work to fit your application. So basicly its alot of money for parts you still have to make fit so your better off just making your own stuff to began with.

I'm not running the Avalanche kit but i am running 1/4 elipticle on a 91 wrangler.
To make a long story short. DON"T DO IT!!!
i'm taking it off ang going with TJ front coils as soon as i get a free weekend to do it.

Why not? I know a lot of other people who are very happy with a 1/4 elip. I'm curious to know your reasoning.

I'm running the Avalanche 1/4's on the rear and sway away coilovers in the front. I like the way it's set up, quality parts, lot's of flex. I need longer shocks in the rear, i think it's time to comes up through the body. Here's a picture above Bassi.

Ya, why not go 1/4 elliptical? I love it! Ya, I'd take coilovers before 1/4 elliptical but for the price of my springs($50) how can I complain? The only thing I didn't like at first was how teh rear would flex way easier than the front, but after wheelin' it a little bit I got used to it and it's no big deal. The front SOA suspension will still flex when it needs to but your rear is probably already maxed out by that time.

Was the Avalanche kit hard to install and are you happy with the money you spent for it? I also did a search and read somewhere that Avalanche took forever and thier customer service was shitty. Any more info and pics would be great, and thanks to all that replied.

P.S. Why is that one guy getting rid of his 1/4 eliptic set up? I'm looking for reasons to support your opinions.

There is a write-up on my site about installing that "kit", if you want to call it that.. I've changed the rear suspension a few times since that write-up but it's still 1/4 elip. I should have built from scratch the frist time(that's what I almost had to do with the kit anyway). I've enjoyed the way my 1/4 ellip works and will most likely build another on my next rig. Limiting straps are a good option though, I have a rear winch mounted directly above the axle, with the cable hooked to the top of the housing. I use an in-cab switch to the winch for an adjustable limiting strap.

The only guy I know that has the "kit" is Mike Knorr on here. First installed it provided stupid amounts of flex. He has completly redone it, and he has a write up on BC4x4 about it. I asked him if he would do it again, and he said that he would just use coils...... Maybe PM him about it, I'm sure he will have a bit more to say about it.

I noticed the rear steer in 1988YJ's pics, what's the setup on the links?

It sounds like for the money it would be just as easy to shamelessly copy the link setups of some of the guys on here and get as good or better of setup without having to pay someone else for parts that need to be mod'd anywho.

I'm getting rid of mine because of 2 reasons. first off it flexes WAY too much. I've had to run limiting straps to keep it in check.
The second reason is because of weight distrabution. the 1/4 elipticle lifts the vehicle from right behind the drivers seat and going up hill that has caused me problems. With the coils behind the axle and lifting the vehicle from that far back it should work better for me.

I think the problems you described have more to do with your link geometry then the springs...can you have too much flex?I can't:D

your are right i do have some geometry problems but i really think that some of my problem is spring. I've been watching other rigs that are setup like mine and have decided that the springs are my biggest problem.

Could be...good luck. I'm interested in how the coils will do. I think I'm gonna hold out for coilovers someday;)

How does the 1/4 eliptic system, in general, work on the street? Will it still be a daily driver?

For the Avalanche customers, was the kit worth the money spent, or would you have been better off building your own?

For you guys that built your own, which springs did you use? I'm talking about a '93 YJ.

Thanks again

One thing to realize is if you get your links setup correctly or appropriate for your driving style....

It don't matter what you put under it after that for.
Air bags, 1/4 eliptical, coils, Coil overs. you just need to limit the droop some how and adjust the dampening.

Hmm... Im sure thats a REALLY EXPENSIVE kit you'd be buying and get a piss poor product for your $$$.

Check out that rear steer. :shaking:

sorry guy.. yeah.. it flexes... but personally I'de rather give up flex for tracking straight-ish before doing that.

does that guy know that his rear flares are on the wrong sides? hmmmmmm - i dont think i would trust suspension work(or advice) from a guy that cant get flares right. he may have switched them to clear his rocker guards, but you still have to wonder....

Who cares how he mounted his flares. :flipoff2:
