I have a 98 ranger /w a waggy 44 front and a 9" rear... right now I have 36" swampers on there but they are bias ply and its a daily driver so I want a radial.. I just bought the swampers cause they were cheap (used).
Im thinking of getting some ProComp MTs or some MTR's but not sure if I should go 35 or 37... im not really worried about the 9" but more the 44, im not even sure if its up for the 36's.
I have a 4.0 /w 4.88s.
thanks.

I say go for it.. put in some new ball joints and you should be ok if you dont TRY and kill it

yeah, it will live. If you want to keep those axles, you could get some 35spl shafts for the rear, and Warn/CTM combo up front
then you would be able to beat on it pretty hard.

i agree, run it for a while and it should be fine. If you start breaking, beef up with alloys and ctms.

THanks guys... so are the main factors just width and weight? ... does anyone know what a 37" MTR actually measures out to be? I know my swampers are only 34" tall...

I"d say that a dana 44 would handle a 37" radial no problem. Just dont' get too stupid;) Right now I have 38.5" SXs on a dana 44 and I haven't broke anything yet. I'v got a fuel injected 4.2L and 4.88s

I'm running 37" MTR's on my waggy 44 and I haven't had a problem yet. I am running them on 8" wheels, and have beat them pretty hard more than once. So far everything is holding up great.

I'm going to be putting 37's on my waggy 44 front (10" rims), and I'm not too worried about breaking (I only have a 3.0L though), and if I do, it's CTMs and alloy shafts for me.

I just put 37" MTR's on my Explorer. 4.0L and 4.56, auto.
They measure about 36.2" mounted on an 8" rim, no load (if I remember correctly).
