On a 78 79 Bronco or F150 which of the two holes is High pressure and which is return?

I got a gear box but it wasn't installed so I don't know which way to run the lines... thanx

Of the two holes the smaller of the two is the high pressure line,, it is also the one farthest away from the input shaft.

thanx.... i had that part right ...

the reason i am asking is the P/S pump sprays fluid......

The motor is a 91 efi 302 the pump is off the 91 stang..... is there anything i got wrong... there is no leaks anywhere..... it just sprays fluid when I crank up the motor and its a B**ch to stear i do have 39" but it feels like there is no help from the p/s.

any ideas?

Did you bleed the system? Sounds to me like there is air in there....??

I would think that the mustang PS pump would be weaker/smaller than a full size truck pump (dont know actually). If it is spraying fluid you may have a hole in a line which is causing pressure loss or a loose fiting. Combine that w/ 39 and it may just be too much for it to steer properly. Good luck

How do you bleed a Power steering pump?

the pump is the same for a mustang as is a F350 according to autozone part #'s

 :D

Basically, you want to disconnect the coil wire and have someone crank the motor while you make sure the reservoir doesn't run dry (add fluid as necessary).

Once it seems to be mostly full, reconnect the coil wire, start the truck, and cycle the steering slowly lock to lock (again, filling the reservoir as necessary so it doesn't run dry). For this part, I find that it works better to have the tires jacked up or the drag link disconnected, etc... so that you're not fighting the weight of the tires while working all the air out of the lines.

After cycling back and forth five or six times, you should be in good shape.

I don't know if this will help, but my setup is a 79 box hooked up the serp. pump on my 5.8 (same pump as yours basically, although I've heard the truck pumps are a little better). Anyways, I originally had AGR's pump on there and it squirt all over and only felt like power steering for like a 1/4 of a lock-to-lock turn. I tried the fluid thing, clearing the hoses, bleeding, even taking my box apart, only to discover to my chagrin that I gave AGR to much credit. I put an Autozone pump on and the thing all of a sudden had great power steering!

Anyways, I think I'm trying to say your pump may be bad:D

well it turnned out to be in need of a bleeding..... i disconnected the drag link and cranked up the motor and moved the pitman arm and you could hear air going to the top.... It steers a WHOLE lot easier but it wines like a two doller whore..... but it steers.... maybe it just needs more bleeding???? but thanx to those who responded..
