1) Is the 4R70W the same as an AOD?

2) Does it utilize the same bolt pattern on the back side for the transfer case adapter/intermediate housing?

3) Where can I find technical drawings for the 4R70W?

1) Is the 4R70W the same as an AOD? Same family, but a different design

2) Does it utilize the same bolt pattern on the back side for the transfer case adapter/intermediate housing? Depends on what it's from, if it's from a 4.2 it will share the same bolt pattern, if it's from a 4.6 or 5.4 it doesn't

3) Where can I find technical drawings for the 4R70W? Ford service manual?

I'm looking for technical drawings of the rear of the transmission. The dimensions of bolt patterns, retainer depths, the design of the transfer case adapter, etc. I'd get one from alocal junk yard, but they don't have those in Afghanistan unfortunatly.

Are there adapters for a dana 20?
I have an EB that I will be restoring(not for crawling) and was undecided about this tranny or the aod.

I believe you can use the AOD adapter from advanced adapters on the 4r70w to bolt up a D20.

Checkout yahoo groups AODdominators it as e-mailing forum that deals with late model ford automatics.

Also try http://www.becontrols.com/ they may have some info, or may be able to lead you to some info

If you're talkin' about Chiltons and Hayes, don't think so. I need dimensional drawing. Those are just general pictorals. Playboy isn't good enough, need Hustler details.

The BE controls link above has a lot of good info. They are the same family and the same case. The guts are interchangable. I have an aod with 4r70w guts. I can't be sure that the tail housing is the same but I would be willing to bet. I have a advanced adapter convertion from 2 wheel to fourwheel drive, and it was all ford parts. Worst case when I get back to Campbell I will be pulling mine apart, I will be able to measure then. Not sure this helped any.
Side note: you at JAF? Saber6 is a hefty call sign.

Yeah it does help. It seems they are the same case, only the internals were beefed up. I've got some adapter ideas that I'm going to try out on my wifes F150 when i get back and I'm tryin' to draft up designs while I'm here.

Also, no I'm not at JAF and yes I know what Saber 6 stands for' I'm not the SCO. I was a Ground Scout PL when I started on Pirate4x4 and kept it ever since.

If you see Ryan Norwood tell him I said he's a punk.

hell no, I grew out of the hayes and chiltons stuff when I was 19, I hardly ever use my hayes anymore. I"m talking about a dictionary size Ford service manual. That'll have everything you need and more

I'll have to track one down when I get back to the states. Any recommendations for online sources?
