I’m in the planning stages of my new trail rig and need some advice or direction as to a rear disc conversion for the 14 Bolt FF. However I will need discs that have an Emergency Break option since I plan on driving to and from the trail.
Any suggestions?
spend the $$ for a high angle driveline kit
the caddy calipers are really not great IMO.
they have none of the advantages of a normal brake caliper
a cutting brake should get you passed a roadside inspection if you are sneaky.

I dont like using an e-brake because of the cables. Use a Jamar Park Lock. If you need one I can get it for you. Plumbs inline with the brake line.

I wouldn't mind one of these, however I don't believe that this will pass for a state inspection in NY.. They tend to be sticklers unless you know somebody..

Any line-lock will not pass for a safety inspection. I think that's the case pretty much anywhere.

What problems do you have with the Caddy caliper? It's not as big as the K20 front that is used in a standard, conversion but then again you should not be using the rears as much as the front. Proportioning valves are there for a reason.
Sounds like this is a street driver part time wheeler, so I would assume no major rock crawling.

The problem with the Eldo calipers is they suck at staying in adjustment if the E-brake is not used often....they NEED to be used all the time (the E-brake that is) to stay in adjustment. I have them and that is what i nned to do. If not, they don't take up enough slack as the pads wear.

I just put my disks on today and have to order the calipers, what's the deal with some of the El Dorados having the bracket and not others? Any good leads on where to get a complete setup?

It's not budget, but it's 90% off the shelf parts.

Do you have to have a mechanical e-brake to be legal? Would two calipers work if both were hydraulic? I am toying with the idea of mounting two calipers on each side. Get one set of brackets that are offset and then run the ones I have without the spacer. You would then have to run some type of cutting brake or hand actuated hydraulic master cylinder. I don't know if this would be legal though. It would give you a totally seperate and independent brake system. This is what the e brake should be. Having a line lock or valve in the main system is not having an e-brake.
