Hey guys I hang out over in the Ford forum most of the time, however....I was wondering if any of you guys had a 3D model of a XJ or ZJ? I am looking into designing a cage for a friend/customer of mine and thought it would be cool to lay it out first in a 3D program. I am a M.E. by trade and have all of our pro-mod drag chassis' in Solidworks but was hoping for a starting point on a grand.
Thanks Guys,
-Matt

I have an autocad 3d drawing of an XJ. It opens up in Solidworks and Inventor, but comes up as a web of lines. It just needs to be converted to a solid model if anyone knows how.

This model is in google sketchup CAD program, not sure if this helps but worth a try.

I'm not a ME but I stayed in a Holiday Express last night and I have Solidworks, could you send me the file for me to try to convert, I'll share if it works. Can you save it as an .igs/.iges type file?
The sketch up convert won't work from what I've found from Google search, so far.
I love a good challenge.

It won't let me save it as either of those file types. It will only let me save at as a drawing file.

Could you email me the drawing? I have all 3 of those programs and I can try to convert it to a solid. No promises but I can try!

I can't get it to convert. Its a wireframe in autodesk, and solidworks will only convert the drawing into a 2d drawing.

If you would like, to send it my way also. I can try and convert it to a useable 3d solidworks model.

anybody have a copy of solidworks I can have? hahaha! I need it, but cant afford it right now. I've been designing all my flat work in a sign design program, and saving it as DXF. it works pretty good, but sometimes the laser wont reed every thing. i know solidworks would fix that right up.

I don't think there is a way to get Solidworks for free. If you are in school, you should be able to ask the engineering department if they are set up to get free downloads of Autodesk Inventor, which is pretty much like Solidworks.

I'm not in school any more, its been about 10 years now. i will check into it though. my little bro is going to school, and maybe i could get it that way. i know i cant get it for free, i was just hoping maybe some one had an older version that i could buy CHEAP, or maybe a copy with multiple licenses? i have a little $, but not nearly enough for the whole program. 90% of what i need it for is flat work. i try not to get into all the 3D stuff if i can avoid it. if i show someone a 3D rendering, and they tell there friends, then every one who comes to my shop will want to see one. maybe someone knows a better software for that kind of thing?

I use Rhino3D, there is free evaluation download that gives you 25 saves. It is probably one of the most under rated modeling programs you could find. And it is under a grand too.
