: Rolled/flopped this weekend... Am I a ????
rpenner54 08-06-2002, 07:43 PM Bad driver because of that? I have been told that I am a poor driver off-road because I flopped/rolled my Explorer while driving on a somewhat hard trail this weekend? In fact I was under the impresion this guy thinks that anyone that has rolled is a piss-poor driver.
What do you all think? Should I just give him the :flipoff2: salute? :)
It was my first time ever too! :D It was a pretty crazy moment. The truck stalled out on me cause I was going down a hill and just put way to much brake presure on and my front left tire fell into a hole and over I went.
frankie fountain 08-06-2002, 07:54 PM i rolled 3 times in my front yard and a few times on the trail .
am i a poor driver? if so it was fun.tell um to go:flipoff2:

However poor a driver you are off-road... I'm worse... I've flopped my truck on its side four times, rolled it more or less end-over backwards once, and I'm not the only one who's rolled it... all in the last six months. Once you get over the sheetmetal, it actually starts getting fun. :)
Jason R 08-06-2002, 08:59 PM My viewpoint is this: If you wheel it long enough (and wheel it hard) you will eventually roll it or lay it on its side. You will know how good of a driver you are by how easily you get through things (unless you l ike makin it hard but thats no excuse for bein slow as hell on the trails :flipoff2: ).
Hey if you got some pics show us!!! Hell yea. :D
kidwired 08-06-2002, 09:09 PM it really depends, I didnt see it so I dont know the situation.
all it takes is a second of losing focus, lookin at the sun setting over the snow covered mtns....wow......OH SHIT! was I driven?!?
if you flopped somewhere that is damn near impossible to flop then yeah, that was not a good move, if you turned right and stomped it when you should have turned left and eased it then you are a bad driver. if you flopped it hittin a hard line then you were wheelin.
if you are a poor driver because of one flop than i must be the worlds most retarded driver
Nobody 08-06-2002, 09:49 PM I only roll on flat ground!
badassjeepguy 08-06-2002, 10:02 PM if you aint rolled. stuck. or broke, you aint wheeling.... not necessarily in that order... :D

Patrol 08-07-2002, 04:37 AM You're not a retard driver, you just lost your virginity :flipoff2:
rpenner54 08-07-2002, 07:17 AM Well the situation was that I was going down a really steep section of a trail and there was a giant hole from people going up this section on the left had side. I stalled out from going to slow down it and couldn't recover in time and just went over.
Ah well I am not giving up wheeling! :)
Scott I know what your saying... Someday when I have a job again and have some money rolling in I will have you fab up a cage for me. :D
The funny thing is, is this guy thinks that everyone that has rolled or flopped is a piss-poor driver off-road.
Spank 08-07-2002, 08:40 AM The truth is, a lot of people have a lot of things to say, especially about the things they know nothing about.
So basically, it doesn't matter what he thinks, give him the :flipoff2: and keep wheeling.
pumpkinhead 08-07-2002, 08:45 AM I've rolled my Jeep over frontwards once, over frontwards and all the way down the hill like a Nascar once, over backwards twice, over backwards and side for side 4 times once, and about 50 or so times on it's side. My wife has layed my Jeep over twice as well. Am I a sh@tty driver? Who cares!!! I'm havin' a good time!
Tell that guy to get bent.:flipoff2:

Reading between the lines, you indeed might have made a mistake that led to the roll-over...
Even though I wasn´t there to see what happened, I can say that in general, using the brakes when going down a steep grade is not agood move. It´s real easy to swap ends, as the rear brakes tend to lock up. BTDT and very, very nearly rolled it as it skidded sideways downhill...
I know you said that the truck had stalled out. Therefore, the brakes were likely your only alternative. However, it would seem that if you had had the tranny and t-case in lo-lo, the motor revs would have been high enough to prevent stalling...
That being said, I HAVE laid it over twice and do not think that I´m THAT bad a driver. So youré prolly not either...
:flipoff2: :D

Big Rich 08-07-2002, 09:40 AM Ok, I'll admit I'm a lousy unproven driver, and I've only rolled down the freeway or when as a passenger. By mister know it all's statements, even though I know I'm not good, I'd be considered good.
:flipoff2: Him
Rich
besides I rather be consider a bad driver, that way when I make it I look good and if I don't nobody is suprised.
:D :D
elf_cruiser 08-07-2002, 03:02 PM you rolled because your vehicle has a flaw, that's not your fault. I almost rolled twice this weekend, and saved it both times. I like to walk up to that edge, look off of it, then take a step back, not jump over. I would not worry about it, if i were you.

At least we dont have to TELL you :flipoff2:
Explorer 08-07-2002, 03:48 PM Ryan has been practicing for that flop over for a long time. In this video www.explorer4x4.com/ryan2whls.mpg you can see dan Mick instructing Ryan on the art of drivng an Explorer on two wheels:p Try as he might it took a few more years before Ryan got his Ex all the way over on it's side:D
Welcome to the club Ryan! Shit happens:D

RNM2000 08-07-2002, 04:06 PM Gawd Rick that is exactly what the "other" person says PROVES that he is an unsafe driver--that video. That Ryan has "history", therefore he should NEVER be allowed to wheel with the kids -- my daughters. He was going so damn slow so as not to scare them, and then look what happened!
The bad driver statement came from a guy who has a bikini-top CJ7 with 38s, no full roll cage, who straps all 3 kids in the little backseat and does a lot more hardcore trails than us, and also let them ride along when he used it as a pull truck in competition at some fair.
After seeing these responses, sounds like he has a personal problem, eh? :flipoff2: Sigh... such is life. Oh yeah, no pics... forgot the camera that day, but we have some "after" shots of the damage.
Explorer 08-07-2002, 04:14 PM I still haven't seen the after shots. Git'em up!!:D
ROCKILLER 08-07-2002, 04:18 PM think about it like this... will you make it next time? if so then you learned something and youre now a BETTER driver. if not then youre a slow learner. I'm not the best driver there is but everytime I go wheelin I get better. besides, if you dont roll youll never know how far you can get before you roll.

I am waiting on Matt to send them over. His work has been moving for the past two days... I would think it would be sometime tonight though. :D
gojeepn58 08-07-2002, 04:47 PM if rolling your jeep means you lost your virginity then i must be a HO !!!!!!::confused:

But you knew that already right Maranda? ;)
Ryan now you have a good reason to cut the roof off. Besides it's an Explorer it is designed to roll. :D
landusepbb 08-08-2002, 07:37 AM ...all it takes is a second of losing focus...
VERY true. Many rolls can't be avoided, but the above is the cause of much damage, and its easy to do, we've all probably done it with various consequences. Hell, I was driving through a narrow slot after some serious wheeling, was in 2 wd and wasn't paying attention and drove my right front fender right into a wall, folding it all the way under into the wheel well.
so i was at a local wheeling area well known for the extreem wheelers to play in this state. i was not there on saturday as there were approx 100 rigs. we were there on sunday. i rolled my rig. the local law enforcement was there also but had left prior to my rollover. i understand that on saturday when people rolled on an obstacle they were handed wreckless driving tickets..... the area was called funny rocks/ moonrocks in the Manastach ridge area of eastern washington. i understand some SNORT guys were there can anyone confirm this?

Yeah I knew it, but why on earth did I live with it for 8 years? LOL Hindsight...
Don't encourage him! He's wanted to hack the roof and doors for a looong time now. With one whole side that now looks like crinkled aluminum foil, maybe I should just let 'em.
rpenner54 08-09-2002, 08:10 PM Here is a few pics of the aftermath.... :D :D :D

Grim Reaper 08-10-2002, 02:04 PM Hell you didn't even break the windows! What are you crying about? hahahaha You do this sport long enough it will eventully happen. It sucks when you have a resonably decent looking rig like yours is/was :D If you can't live with crushing in the side and shaking it off this sport isn't for you. As for the other guy :flipoff2: He's an ass and he's the type when the day finaly arives it's going to be a big one. Just hope his unprotected kids are not in the truck for it.
Now what really sucks is when it's not a quick smash and its over. I got mine wedged between a rock and I could not get a line to get off it. Just had to mash the skinny peddle and listen to the whole rear 1/4 get destroyed. SHeet metal and large rock make a hedious noise when your in that situation where you just got to suck it up and do it. Everybody that watched had the "Nails on chalk board look" LOL. The bad thing is the Guy spotting me drives a simular sized vehicle and knew he was about to get the same. He caved in the side of his 79 Bronco so bad the door would not latch. There are pictures in my MSN link in the sig in the Dixie Run album.
Lil Uzi 08-10-2002, 02:44 PM You don't have to worry about repo man, now, do you ? :flipoff2:
GJarrett 08-10-2002, 03:51 PM You're wheeling an Explorer; it's supposed to roll over, right? :D
rpenner54 08-10-2002, 06:09 PM Hell I have never cared about dents at all. In fact one of these dents, dented a dent. :D

:D This paint doesn't show anything on a picture! Even all dented it up is still looks purty. LOL
MoabZJ 08-11-2002, 01:46 PM At leats it happened on a trail. Learn from it and move on--you now know the limits of your vehicle that much better. The damage could have been worse--cabbed vehicles don't fair well.
