I would like to hear what methods you use to remove mostly surface rust safely and effectively; mainly on the body and on the frame. Preferably, it is something I want to do at home.
As always, I used the search function before asking. :D

sand blasting is the best but not all that easy nor something you can do at home in a hurry, an angle grinder with a wire wheel works well, also a die grinder for tighter spots...

and to prevent it.. and even stop it in it's tracks after a mild grind use POR 15... will put a tough coat over the metal and it wont rust again.... it's supposed to stop it too.. anyways...
I think its www.por15.com

For surface rust, dilute phosphoric acid in a spray bottle. Converts the rust to iron phosphate just like those POR-type paints/primers. That way it prevents future rust too.
Here in Ohio we just kick it or hit it with a hammer - the loose stuff falls off and you can't ever get rid of it with all the salt used here.
