My 8274 locked up on me saturday when I needed it most. (Of course) It was drawing lots of current but barely moving. Taking it out of gear made no difference. Then suddenly, bam, started working O.K. Motor and cables got pretty warm. Has anyone had this happen? Bad spot in the motor? something in the gearbox? I checked all the connections, tight and clean. I'd hate to not be able to trust it...

I would check the solioids and make sure the connectors are ok..
Cycle it out on and in on line pulls stopping ever once in a while and see how it does..
It sounds like either your solin stuck or motor partially froz..

Sounds more like you may have a broken gear or something that is getting in the gears and locking them up. If the motor or cylinoids were bad it would not draw the amperage to overheat the cables.
Brake may have locked up.

Hey, you may be on to something, Is the brake the big gizmo on the side? I will have to look for a diagram.
