: X-fer case problem

alright guys, my rear t-case is having some serious fawkin issues right now, and i wanted some advice before i rip it out. the t-case pops out of gear (into neutral) when in 4-lo while compression braking. it is also extremely difficult to shift to 2wd (like all of my strength) and no rocking the vehicle or slipping clutch does not help. i know that there was a lot of water sitting in the case for at least 2-3 months during winter while it sat  (not sure how it got in-possibly through the shifter/ no roof and shitty tarp) till i changed the fluid. i think it might be bound up with rust or similar...i'm gonna try driving w/ some solvent in it for a bit then flushing it all out. I dunno, what do you fellas think?

thanks

I always find it easier to get into 2wd from 4 while rolling in gear slowly.

Make sure there isn't any interference w/the body while flexing. Under compression you're drive train will be rotating slightly and may also be causing some interference.

If you had water sitting in it for two to three months, then you have bearings dying as we speak. Pull it apart, replace whatever you have to, or it may be easier, and cheaper to buy a whole new tcase to replace it.

that was my feeling, and i've checked for body interference. also shifting was not improved by having the truck moving, etc... but dont think im an idiot because of the water, after all how many of you would check t-case fluid condition after it had sat in your driveway high and dry for months and had been changed no more than two weeks before parked. Oh and :flipoff2: to people who have nothing to say but talk shit anyway.

Your bearings are most likely frozen up from sitting in water. The last case I tore apart had a lot of rust but it cleaned up easily when I swaped out the gears and bearings. Now would be a good time to get a lower gear set because they come with all the bearings and stuff you need for a rebuild. Good luck.

They do? My AA 4.0 set didn't come with any bearings.
