: ISO headers/stock exhaust for 4.3L Vortec in '85 4Runner

Someone out here has got to know!

I am in the middle of this project and one problem is selecting an exhaust manifold that will fit. The Vortec I am using has come out of a '94 Astro van and its exhaust manifolds don't fit. We have considereed cutting and rotating the flanges, but we don't think that's gonna work.

I know that a pair of '89 Astro Van manifolds will work... Anyone have a set for sale?

Buying a header looks like a good idea, but we don't know which CARB approved headers would fit.

Which headers are known to fit?

Thanks!

Jer

Why not use the factory '85-86 manifolds? they work and are also a tube header sorta

On my 82, I had to cut and weld the driver side only. It fits, with about 1/8 inch to spare between the frame and the bellhousing on the 4L60E.

You'll find those have the same shape as the cast manifolds so the flanges still hit.

I used a set though and relocated the flanges further down by extending the tubes.

I am using stock S10 manifolds on my 95 4.3 engine in my 89 runner...good fit and I still have all the IFS crap in the way....

YES....it will removed soon....I promise......runner going back under the knife this week for tranny/Tcase swap and IFS removal.

I hadn't heard that those manifolds would work, but I certainly appreciate your input. I originally wrote that I understood the '89 Astro Van manifolds would fit, but I mistyped. I meant '89 S10 manifolds

So, you too are using the stock '94 era Vortec exhaust manifold? We began to cut the flange off of the manifold with the idea of rotating it, but thought that this would not work. I like the idea of addeding an extension tube to the manifold so that the flange is lower in the engine compartment.

good ideas!

The frame rails in an IFS Mini are different than those in a full-floating front. This could very well be why you have been succesfull. I am going to have to come up with a different solution.

So far, it looks like I will have to have a custom set of headers built or have a known set of CARB headers modified, if they don't fit. I am now beginning to contact header manufacturers to see who is making what I need. Thorley has already replied. Negative.

No, not IFS, just the IFS frame. Another positive thing about a SAS.:flipoff2:

check with AA, they worked with me to build a set that fit

I used tubular exaust manafolds of an 85 full size pickup. they were easily modafied to work in my 84 toy.

Well, I called Advance Adaptors today and they confirmed a few things.

They know that an '80 Monte Carlo with a 3.8L V6 has manifolds what will work.

So will a full-size '85 Chevy Truck with the V6.

I heard elsewhere that an '89 V6 manifold also works

Chances are good that I will have to grind a little metal on the 4L60e bell-housing.
