: Passenger Drop NP205 with S5-42

I am looking for input on the best way to accomplish this. I'm doing a very bastardized and unconventional swap. I have an S5-42 that I need to hang a passenger drop NP205 off of. I have an 8-bolt (racetrack) GM NP205 (obviously passenger drop), and a driver drop Ford 31 Spline NP205. From what I've gathered, I need an adapter between the transmission and the GM T-Case, and I need to have the 31 Spline input shaft dropped into the GM T-Case, which will require machining work in the input for the larger bearing and seal used with the 31 Spline shaft. All of this is fine, but I wanted a little input as to whether or not this is the best way to go.

Thanks

best way would be a round 6 bolt GM case to start with.
if you want to spend $$ a lomax would be perfect

I'll vote for finding a 6 bolt GM 205 too, then there'll be no adapter needed.

The GM Round Pattern 205 was my first instinct, so I called a couple local yards looking for one (hard little buggers to track down...). But then I stumbled upon This Thread (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=721156), which states that the round pattern on the GM NP205 is not the same as the round pattern on the Ford NP205 (unless I'm misreading the information).

I'd love to track down a 32 spline GM NP205, swap out the input shaft, and bolt everything up, then I don't need another adapter, nor do I need to machine my case for a bigger bearing... Somebody please confirm the patterns...

Much thanks for all the replies.

you do own a drill dont you?
you will also have to make a notch for the shift rail to clear the adapter

Fantastic, I'll take this as confirmation that the pattern is largely the same, I'll need to drill a couple holes, and grind some clearance for the shifter. All tasks well within reason.

I called another shop, and they told me that the Ford pattern and the GM round pattern are in fact the same, but they are clocked differently and therefore require drilling a couple holes to get everything to match up properly.

Much Thanks
