Looking at this at Lowes

since my current Craftsman box is packed full and was wondering if anyone has any input on it before I drop $1500 on it.

Too much for a Kobalt box IMO. For the same amount of money you can find a MAC, snap on etc is great shape. Plus the stereo and fridge are lame and a waste of space that could be used for tools. I have seen it in Lowes and the quality isnt bad but I couldnt see spending that much on it. Or I think you can get a box about the same size as that from the Craftsmen Professional line for around the same price, and a better box too.

I would gladly trade the refigerator for one deep drawer for spray cans and such.

No real comparison to the box in question, since it's about 10" wider, 6" deeper, and comes with a top box as well.

I would definitely go with a used Snap On, Mac, Matco... on craigslist, there are a lot of layoffs happening now, so its a good time to buy tools.

ebay, too. Just be carefull, snapon and mac have a cheap(er) starter line of boxes that ain't much better than crapsman. They are only 18" deep. I've seen several of them for a mint, just cause the name.

Matt:
Give Jerry Bailey a call! He'll set you up with a nice NEW Snap-On box for not much more than that. He has a pile of them and some nice used ones. Jim Young also has some nice new and used boxes as well.

Both of the boxes you've seen in my shop were bought used from the tool truck guys. I've become pretty fond of inexpensive used Mac boxes.

I have no input as to the quality of the Lowes boxes as I have never used one. I've messed around with them at the store and the fit seems nice but that's a lot of money for a Lowes box. I have no need for a fridge in my tool box and would prefer the deep storage instead. I bought my 40" wide ball bearing chest on CL for $200. It was like new and being sold by a guy's dad. I guess the son, owner, owed his dad some money so the dad took the box and sold it. Best deal ever as retail was close to $800.

I don't see that Lowes box to be any better than the SS ones at Costco.
