I've seen some pretty shitty recaps. (Treads pretty much fall off the core.)

But those were OLD retreads. I've recently heard that the technology for this procedure has gone way up. I would just judge what kind of procedure the guys using. If he's doing it out of his garage it's probably not the best way to go, but if he's got a shop, and even more-so, a nice/GOOD looking shop it may be worth a shot.

BEAT ME DOWN IF I'M OF BASE HERE GUYS ;)

crap.. i cant find the web site anymore..

anyway.. fourwheeler mag did an article a couple of years ago on a company that was doing m/t re-caps.. seemed like they were pleased with the quality and price. i looked into them to because they were cheap as fawk but they didnt have the capability to re-caop anything over a 33 at the time.

EDIT: found it (http://www.hi-tec-retreading.com/) :D

I have a set of Hi-tech retreads on my DD XJ. The have around 30k miles on them and are pretty worn out. Couldn't beat the price: 4-235's for $204 delivered to my door

They arn't quite a swamper tread, more like a Dunlop Mud Rover.

These are retreads and they kick ass.

http://www.transglobaltyres.com/tyres/4x4/guyane.htm

They clean better than BFGs or Generals (then again, what doesnīt??) and are a lot cheaper. They also wear very well. A lot of guys here use these tires and Iīve NEVER heard of even one falling apart.

Another alternative...

http://www.transglobaltyres.com/tyres/4x4/cross.htm

These tires grab REALLY WELL in mud, but like the motorcycle tires with the same pattern, they have a tendancy to loose their lugs...

I donīt know if either is available in the States, tho...
