: 4WDH Team 311 gets a facelift...
TJMagoo 10-14-2008, 06:38 AM The 4Wheel Drive Hardware rock crawling team will be getting a face lift for the 2009 competition. We're working on a project for 2009 and it starts with the body tub removal...but this is all the info I'm giving you guys for now. I'll post pics as we get more and more done...and once it's all done, I'll post up what we're doing.
-Kel
TJMagoo 10-14-2008, 06:39 AM More pics...See why we won't make put up or shut up this weekend LOL
TJMagoo 10-14-2008, 06:40 AM This is all over a course of 3 nights. I am sure the reassmebly will take much longer.
rajincajingt 10-14-2008, 07:06 AM in to see the progress,
good luck fellas
TJMagoo 10-14-2008, 07:40 AM And lady, right ;)
rajincajingt 10-14-2008, 07:43 AM And lady, right ;)
gotcha, she looks like she needs all the luck she can get with you dude around!
:flipoff2:
I think you can still make the comp this weekend, just need to get Dustin to send over a case or two of Red Bull and you guys/gal will be all set!!!
Thanks for the update and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Dirk

PUjeeper 10-14-2008, 10:27 AM Looks good Kelly. Mine will be going threw that once the snow starts hitting. Surprising, I got it to finally start last Saturday and now it runs fine....and I didn't do anything to it but hold the petal to the floor when it would finnally start cranking again and it finnally fired up. Now it runs just like it did before ASN and starts right up. Going to wheel a couple more times this fall before the tear down.
So any more secrets to give out? I need to figure out if I'm going to try to patch new panels onto mine or if I need to just get a new tub. I am looking at a plastic hood too :D
TJMagoo 10-14-2008, 10:36 AM Wow John - I guess your rig just needed a breather before it fired up for you. My tub was so wrecked, as soon as we lifted the cage out, it was like the tub let out a sigh of relief. 4 years of competitions = 4 hard rolls and 4 flops = tub beat to shit.
I'm picking up the new tub today from Davey's Jeeps. That's all I'm letting out for now. You all will have to stay tuned to see the end result and what this top secret project is we're working on for 2009.
(Those of you that know, please don't let the cat out of the bag)

I won't say a word.
Never Monday 10-14-2008, 11:36 AM Great excuse
you gonna graft on a KJ body?
Tj_Justin 10-14-2008, 12:42 PM Maybe they will put on a 4 door jk body on, and be able to extend there wheelbase within werock rules.
Would any of those mods require the OEM frame from a JK? Its been a while since i read the class rules for the stock mod.
TJMagoo 10-14-2008, 01:25 PM Nope, nope and nope. It'll still be a TJ.
BROKE_ASS_YJ 10-14-2008, 05:02 PM Lj..........
PUjeeper 10-14-2008, 05:32 PM swapping in leaf springs?
SickRock 10-15-2008, 04:29 AM Looks like a few SM's are going to be doing some mods ... look forward to seeing them. We have a few tricks of our own coming for next season! :D
paineszj 10-15-2008, 06:03 AM People are really thinking into this thing, some of the thoughts have been way outside the box, but really cool. I especially like the 4 Door JK body to stretch wheelbase.
Fortunately for everyone involved with Kel's Jeep it isn’t that involved.
Keep Guessing. Its going to be really neat when its all done!
wheatfield 10-15-2008, 08:36 AM Will it be done for the KOH LCQ? The Tracker will have a few updates that will debute at the LCQ. Looking foward to see the results guys/gals.
Scott
TJMagoo 10-15-2008, 12:48 PM No we're bailing on the LCQ. We have a lot on our plate with this project. Once it's done, it's seat time and practice for us.
paineszj 10-15-2008, 01:29 PM If its red hat I totally agree with you! I mess with him every day at work.
SickRock 10-29-2008, 12:07 PM :D update???
TJMagoo 11-04-2008, 06:48 AM Since my last post, we have done a lot of: bracket removal, frame clean up, changing a broken front axle shaft (chromoly dana 60), drilling and cutting the new body tub. Here are more progress pics. Next up, getting the tub lined then it's time for a new paint job.
TJMagoo 11-04-2008, 06:48 AM More progress pics...
zachv 11-04-2008, 05:46 PM :in to see the updates:
Kelly, why are you replacing that beautiful tub--it was almost pristine. :p If you listen closely you can hear the new tub crying a little because the old tub told it what it is in for.
BTW, need any new rockers now that PSC is out of business? If you need anything give me a shout.
TJMagoo 11-05-2008, 08:17 AM Thanks Zach. My poor old tub - when we lifted the cage out, it was like it let out a sigh LOL It's probably crushed the size of a penny by now :(
Gen-Right Off Road graciously hopped on board to sponsor us with rockers and corners.
TJMagoo 11-11-2008, 07:32 AM Some progress pics of the tub on the frame and the cage in the tub. We have one pillar of the cage not lining up, so we have some work to do there. I'm taking the tub to Line-X next week to get lined inside and out...then it's to the paint shop!
zachv 11-11-2008, 07:45 AM Kelly, are you guys done with the cage at that point? If not, you may want to add tubes from the B-pillars to the C-pillars and also across the C-pillar. Even if the C-pillar is tied into the frame those bars really help distribute the load throughout the cage.
Be well.
TJMagoo 11-11-2008, 10:52 AM The cage is the same cage we had this past year. I'll pass along your suggestion to shopteach who built it.
PUjeeper 11-11-2008, 11:11 AM kelly, with the X at your door how do you plan to add window nets?
TJMagoo 11-11-2008, 11:38 AM Well we talked about adding a hinge-able bar and have the net cover the top portion. That is the last thing I'm worried about at this point.
TJMagoo 12-01-2008, 12:38 PM Here are some before and after pics of the tub. We were lucky enough to pick up Line-X as a sponsor for 2009, so we had the tub lined by Line-X in Akron, OH. They did such an excellent job. It will look bad ass against the new paint job :)

mikey4play 12-01-2008, 03:24 PM Where is the hard core part to this thread ? Since when is a roll cage that doesn't go back into place, Line-X and a pink paint job hard core ? :shaking:
Come to a werock event and watch what the stock mods do on 35s. Then you'll understand. That and breaking 35splines with 35" tires.
PUjeeper 12-02-2008, 10:42 PM Looking good Kelly. I really need to start my rebuild, but I just can't stop wheeling. Was at badlands last weekend on sunday. Figured if I can figure out how to rockcrawl in the snow the rain won't be so bad this season!!!!
Upper2 12-03-2008, 03:44 AM Looking good Kelly. I have been thinking about window nets for my rig too. I don't like the idea of hinged or removable bar on the side in case it gets hit just right, breaks and impales me in the heart. We have made a few changes to the Wrangler SS as well and taking it to River Rock this weekend to try out the mods. We can't wait till next season to compete again. See you in Dayton.
Sahara01 12-05-2008, 03:34 PM Looks good Kelly, but I am stripping the Line-X off mine. :smokin:
RedBullJeep 12-05-2008, 07:59 PM DAYUM KELLY!!!! You're going to be stoked with this when it's done. I hope you have as much fun as I do working a major project like that. Even with all of the hiccups, I always find it a blast.
Keep those pics coming!
Looks great Kelly keep up the great work and let me know if there is anything you need.
Dirk
soilantgreen 12-05-2008, 08:48 PM Same color green I hope?
PUjeeper 12-05-2008, 09:23 PM Same color green I hope?
rumor has it that it won't be green this year, but I'll let Kelly tell more about that when the time is right.:D:D:D
Hot dog 12-05-2008, 10:09 PM Kelly why swap tubs, that shit would have buffed out. Is that the first tub swap you have done.
Please make it green again.
XZettle 12-06-2008, 06:53 AM 20 bucks says its not green....
TJMagoo 12-08-2008, 03:06 PM Yeah that tub was wrecked pretty bad. 4 years of competition and wheeling will do that. You should've seen when we took the cage out how bad the tub just let go. Yep this is the first tub swap I've done. 2 years ago we swapped teh 4 cylinder for the 4.3L V6...now this. One year I'd like not to spend all winter in the garage.
It's not going to be green anymore. We just got done sanding everything. We have some fiberglass to repair in the hood. Word is, we're taking it to get painted this weekend.
ne14jpn 12-08-2008, 03:17 PM Kelly- Looks good so far...are you ready to spill about the "project" yet??:D
I've got some cool ideas to build bad ass stock class truck that I haven't see in our class yet. Just curious what you guys are up to!
TJMagoo 12-09-2008, 05:10 AM Once it's painted and rebuilding starts, the beans will be spilled :)
bigassedredjeep 12-23-2008, 07:21 AM updates??
LoTGoD 12-24-2008, 07:35 AM Tub, fenders, armor, and other misc. parts went to the painter yesterday.
Should have it all back the first week of the new year.
Painless provided us with an off-road wiring harness to eliminate all the crap we aren't going to need any more. They also gave us a 6 toogle weather-proof switch box with ignition, so that should be cool too.
Sahara01 12-24-2008, 02:55 PM Ok Kelly, so what are ya doing to your rig......
We know the rebuild, but when do we get to know the real deal.....:smokin:
TJMagoo 01-08-2009, 12:42 PM You all will know soon. I can't wait.
It's still at the painters. I'm waiting to hear something from them soon. My new seat covers came from Mastercraft today.
Here are some pics of the tub before we took it to the shop:
PUjeeper 01-19-2009, 11:09 AM bump for new pics or you may just find your front axle missing in the morning!!! :D
TJMagoo 01-20-2009, 10:36 AM Missing huh?? Are you in OH and I don't know about this??
Ok ok here are some updated pics. I was going to hold off on posting any of these until the rig was completely put back together, but I don't want to wait.
Well, the jeep is NOT green anymore. We just picked all of the pieces up last week from Dynamic Auto Body, a shop about 3 doors down from 4WDH. They finished the body work for us and painted everything.
Here is the current state:

Why did we paint it pink you might ask?
In June of 2008, Team 311 driver Kelly Young lost her mother, Marie, to a brief battle with colon and liver cancer. Marie was Team 311’s biggest fan, and a huge fan of rock crawling and motorsports. Since her passing, the team has been looking for ways to show Marie’s appreciation for all that she did while she was with us. An idea was presented that would allow us to remember Marie, and help others with their illness.
Team 311 is changing our Jeep color theme to pink and black, and donating all of the money we raise to the American Cancer Society. We are doing this with the hope that we can play a part in helping to find a cure for something that has affected all of our lives. It is with this hope that “Crawl to Cure Cancer” was born.
Looks GREAT, and what a GREAT CAUSE!!!!!
Just sorry that it has hit so close to home, but hang in there and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Dirk
RedBullJeep 01-20-2009, 11:02 AM I am stoked for your team! The color looks great and is a touching salute to your mom!
ralphXJ 01-20-2009, 11:05 AM You have to see the color in person to get the full effect, its WAY nicer in person!!!! Going to be a fun year for Team 311!!
TJMagoo 01-20-2009, 11:51 AM Yeah it looks so awesome - I'm all paranoid to scratch it...for now :)

PUjeeper 01-23-2009, 10:54 AM Want to make this interesting?? Say dinner and drinks to the winner at the first event??
I'd say winner buys drinks for the loser, becasue you know being last minute is always stressful and you need a drink from the stress.
Also, keep in mind our first comp is 3 weeks before the first WEROCK. But did I mention, you have a cage, you have an engine/trans/t-case already in it, your paint is done, and your axles and suspension are ready? Ours will be done April 2nd which is the thursday before that first comp....isn't that when everything always is ready by? :D I'll start a build thread as soon as we actually start putting something back together and stop taking stuff apart :D :D :D

One question for ya tho? Whats your rear winch mounted too?? I've been lookin for ways to mount mine, and that looks clean.
Right now, its not mounting to anything, its just sitting in there. We will be using some 1x2 square tube running the width of the tub and mounting it to that. Not sure we we have any pictures of it from last season or not.
zachv 01-27-2009, 07:21 AM That thing is going to be too pretty to beat, Kelly. That pink is freaking HOT! Is there a specific name for it?
Also, your Mom's passing saddens my heart, but your fortitude is enlightening and I pray that God blesses your team this year.
TJMagoo 01-27-2009, 10:00 AM Thanks a lot Zach.
There was no certain name for it. It is a PPG color I picked off of a swatch. There is paint all over the sticker on the can so I can't even tell you what they call it...besides bad ass LOL
Shram 02-09-2009, 05:53 PM Want to make this interesting?? Say dinner and drinks to the winner at the first event??
So you guys/ladies plan on buying me drinks.:flipoff2: Looks really good Kelly. Really looking forward to the season.
shopteach 02-25-2009, 07:08 AM so, where's the updates?????
TJMagoo 03-06-2009, 12:03 PM Not much of an update...main thing is wiring and tying up any loose ends. The stickers are samples, I was testing out the all black on the paint job.
Here are some pics from last night:

TJMagoo 03-06-2009, 01:02 PM There is one...you can barely see it...it's behind the winch.

PUjeeper 03-29-2009, 07:40 PM is this thing wheeling yet???? I've heard it doesn't even have any tires :D
Our rig will be competiting this coming weekend, would hate for you to have to get us dinner at the second event :D
TJMagoo 03-31-2009, 05:28 AM Oh it runs and it moves. And I have tires now :D You lost the bet. We fired it up about 2 weeks ago and moved it out of the garage a week ago.

I just became a fan of yours...well at least more than I was before. :grinpimp:
It's PPG or let it rust, I say.
If you can figure out that five or six digit number that you picked from the store's swatch, I will check with our counter people to see if that color has a name for those interested.
TJMagoo 04-10-2009, 05:30 AM I won't be going back to the paint place any time soon. I'll see if there is anything on the paint can.

Or is the "mud run" filled in?

got my t-shirt last week :smokin: and did the walk in denver this weekend..
TJMagoo 01-25-2010, 06:46 AM I just thought I would post this here and give all of you the update of how well we did last year.
I am very pleased to announce how much money we raised this year for Team 311's Crawl to Cure Cancer program. Throughout 2009, we turned in $4,738 to the American Cancer Society. 4Wheel Drive Hardware is matching that AND giving us 100% of the proceeds from our t-shirt sales, which is another $4,895!
So total donation from our team for 2009...$14,371!
Thank you everyone so much for your help and support in this great cause. We couldn't make this happen without our fellow Jeepers helping spread the word!
-Kelly
zachv 01-25-2010, 06:52 AM Way to step up, Kelly! Congrats on the great results. What is in the fire for this year?
tjjared413 01-25-2010, 06:57 AM wow that is :smokin:. the wife and i love our t-shrits and every one in the denver cancer walk asked where they could get one at! keep up the good work!
TJMagoo 01-25-2010, 08:05 AM This winter will be like no other winter in the past. In fact, we just started working on it and it's January LOL
- We will be putting in a new rear axle. Stepping up to a Currie Rock Jock 60 center section with G2 axle components.
- Try to figure out why the stupid transmission still leaks. If we can't figure it out, the tranny is coming out and going to a shop for inspection.
- Regear the front axle
- I sent the Atlas back to Advance to see if they can figure out why that bugger is still so hard to shift in and out of gear. I've had it for 5 years and there are times when I can't even move the shifters.
That's about it besides the normal bolt check and greasing fittings. Even though we didn't start on it until now, I think we're in good shape for the first comp being 4 months away.
