Ok...I did the search and found that on the newer Warn (5 wire control) winches, there is a ground loop created in the controller that is a "built in safety feature". Has anyone just made the ground loop in the solinoid pack and just carried 3 wires into the cab? Any potential problems? Anyone take apart the controller to see if the switch is DPDT or just a 3 wire mom on-off-mom on with the ground loop created as soon as the controller is plugged into the solinoid pack?

I am trying to finish the wiring for my new M12000 and was hoping to get this straightened out before I installed the solinoid pack.

TIA.

Talk to Christo... I think he just did this with his new truck. I could be wrong, but I 'THINK' he did.

It is a DPDT switch in the controller. The broken ground is a safety factor for Warn. I have been told stories of Ramsey relay's getting wet and going active on their own. In one case it burned the truck to the ground when the motor and wiring overheated and caught fire.

Run the extra wire and put in a DPDT switch, or put a controller disconnect switch on the ground. That's what I did to use a Ramsey controller with my x8000i. Mounted the simple 4 pin plug under the dash and a switch next to it for the Warn ground. It stayes plugged in all the time, and I can use it outside the cab if necessary (like rolling up the cable by yourself). When I'm done, just rool up the controller, tuck it away and turn off the switch for the extra safety margin.

Anyone have a wiring schematic? Would like to go in cab switch but don't want to fawk it up, haven't seen a schematic either.

Why not just run 2 more wires into the cab, and use a DPDT switch instead of a SPDT switch?

That's what we did..
