I've put a FF 14 bolt under my CJ7 and located it ~6" to the rear of the stock location (waggy springs and relocated mounts). Now I've only got ~3.5" between the top of the diff and the bottom of the stock tank. I want to keep the gas tank under the tub.

If I remove the frame x-member over the rear axle, will I weaken the frame too much?
Where can I find a large and shallow tank ( ~ 26"*28"*7") that's not plastic or crazy expensive?
If I have a tank built, how do I make it street legal and how should it be baffled (or will a sump be better)?

Any help or ideas would be great. The Jeep needs to stay street legal and retain a back seat. I don't have the skills to fab a tank.

I havent done mine yet but have th estock 20 gallon tank in my CJ.
I was planning on just cutting the floor and raising it up, and boxing it in again.

Looks like it will clear the mid-xmember when raised...not sure though.

Will find out when I start chopping.

If its a problem I will just rework the xmember.
