The N6ICW system is outstanding. From Reno we can easily hit the 145.15 machine, sitting atop heavenly valley, and work from P-ville to GrassValley and all points in between and west of there. Awesome coverage. We've also hit it from Snake Lake as well.

tnx -- i cannot hit those distant machines very well when mobile-- but easy from home. Going thru a diamond x300 up about 40'. For more fun, have an elk LP antenna polarized horizontal to work 2m SSB. that's fun as well.

Chris, the owner has some equipment on Mt. Vaca and that may be where he lists his liscense. Checkout his website at N6ICW.org. There is a tab explaining his system.

I think it very much is Tim. I overheard on the radio yesterday that one on the KI6's printed out the list and had it with him in his vehicle. I plan on printing the list and shrinking the font down and doing the same. Maybe laminate it to keep it from getting damaged.

I should know it, but my memory isn't the greatest...to renew my license do I have to retest, or just send in the forms...thanks.

Niether, Anthony, you're good to go. Your license was good for ten years when you got it. You got your license in June of 2000 and it expires in June of 2010. You can renew it for free when the time comes, so don't mess up and forget to renew it. You can do it online at www.fcc.gov (http://www.fcc.gov), just follow the links.

Tech Q: Thinking of a battery booster for the ham gear power supply. Run yellow/red top Optimas in heep. enjoy HF and extended VHF ops in field. Read about the TGElectronics and MFJ units. Looks helpful for reliable power in the field. Maybe apply same idea for the ARB fridge circuit. Hummm... Read at QST magazine 11/08 edition, page 46.

Santa Rita Peak 147.33--N6DL , 224.44--W6VFZ and 441.900--N6OA...These repeaters are located at the Santa Rita Peak elevation 5000 feet. These Repeaters can operate separately or all tied in together. They have VHF, UHF,. and HF. remote capabilities. The Santa Rita Peak covers a wide area. All three repeaters have a pl of 100 hz.

I finally got my radio the other day, and I was trying to talk to people yesterday and nobody answered:laughing:

I'm down in Dixon and can pick up the Eldo just fine but can't transmit that far so I just tune in when I'm working the garage. There doesn't seem to be much chatter down in this area outside of a local clubs weekly gig.

are you SURE it works? getting the correct PL tone setting is key and on some radios there is a steep learning curve to get it tight. wrong PL means only simplex will work. what rig do u have? antenna set up? we can help.


try calling for a signal report on 146.520, the national simplex calling freq.
or maybe they just don't like you, hihi. If u can get into the repeater, then ur good. Just announcing ur call may or may not get a response. Try asking for a signal report or *gasp* make a CQ call to reach another station. LEarn when local clubs hold meetings or on-air nets and join in a round table QSO. You'll get it soon.

There was a test only event at the fire station in Stockton today. 7 of our club members took the test and everyone passed easily. Even Del and Stacie Albright are new 'Hams' now... :D Great job guys and gals... :smokin:

Take all the online tests at www.qrz.com and you'll be plenty ready. Be aware the answers, while they may be the exact same answers, may or may not be in the same order (a.b.c.d) on the actual test... So you need to actually know the correct answer and not just associate it with a.b.c or d... Don't just try to memorize the questions & answers... You'll actually learn a lot from reading/studying the book. Then the questions (and answers) will make more sense... Good luck to everyone... :beer:

I went out and tried some 20m and 2m this afternoon, I did not have much luck though a thunderstorm ran me off after only 2 hours. After today I am thinking about picking up a buddistick to simplify my setup. Currently running deep cycle battery with a FT-897 and Acer AspireOne running HRD running to a 20m hamstick and a Crushcraft A270-10S 2m/70cm yagi.

Unfortunately I cannot add my own call sign as of yet... but in the VERY near future I will be! Today, well technically yesterday as of now, kicked off the 2009 Field Day and our local club is set up at the county fairgrounds and tryin' out best to make as many contacts as possible. My dad, mom and younger brother all have their license. Now it was my turn to get mine. I took the test this afternoon and missed 1 question, but it was good enough to get my Tech! Tomorrow before the club packs up I want to try for General.

Hopefully I'll be reaching that goal as well. And as soon as I get my call sign I'll be posting it up here and hoping to talk with many of you!!

Congrats on the Extra class and VE status! No worries on a brag. Passing the tests is like 3 steps up a flight of stairs, theres a lot more to learn then just passing the tests.

O I know any one can pass a test after reading a book bit I did do the foot work to learn it. I've also got with two local clubs to learn more and I'm on vol.3 in the antenna books
