Ok, to some wiring confuses them, others automatic transmissions confused them, and for me it's transfer cases. Trail Gear among others sell a twin stick shifters. If you have a dual transfer case does this mean that you could have up to 5 shifters (including the tranny shifter)?

No, only 4. :)

The first t-case is just a range box, so it only shifts low to high = 1 shifter

The second t-case shifts low and high on front and rear. With a shifter for each output = 2 shifters.

The trans will have its own shifter = 1 shifter. Total 4 shifters.

You could put a cable actuator on the range box, and get rid of one shifter. You could also use a single shifter on the split case to get all 4 modes through a certain sequencing of shifts, but that would require intricate linkage geometry which would be unique to each individual type case in every different type vehicle, so its too elaborate to go over other than a case by case basis(no pun intended). That would get you back down to the standard 2 shifters for 4WD.
