I have a chance to get a EFI gas tank for $20 ( yes it is good)
I want it to replace my non baffled dented tank in my 84 longbed.
Are the EFI tanks the same as carberated tanks with the exception of baffles and fuel pump?
Can my mechanical pump "pull" through the electrical pump?
I found no articals on this subject through my searches. I know I saw one awile back but I can't find it.( don't ya hate that?)
Do you know of any articals or links to tell me about? Thanks Tony D.

i have heard ofpeople trying to pull through the fuel pump, but i say no. all the fuel lines and fittings will be needed also. ill give you my old carbed fuel tank!
The main gas line feed fitting is different, it is a threaded fitting on the EFI tank for the high pressure. The flange for the drop-in part is larger on the EFI tank, due to the fuel pump. What you could probably do is clean both tanks out, then cut the flange from the carbed tank (torch or sawzall), weld it on to the EFI tank.
Try not to take the drain plug out of the bottom of the EFI tank. They are hard to get sealed again, sometimes leak.

As much as I like playing with fire, I would rather not bolw myself up. Anyone else have any ideas?

The EFI tanks are wide open...not baffled.
They only have a small fuel tray at the bottom so that the pickup tube never sucks air.
I ran my EFI tank for years with the 4.3 sucking fuel past the stock pump.

THat makes me wonder. My 4.3 has always acted a little funny on start up. It lopes like there is air in the lines. I always hear the fuel pump prime itself but it makes sense that since my truck is a 84 that air is getting in ? I wonder if I should switch to a fuel injection tank. Probably could not hurt.

Seems like startup shouldn’t matter as much as when you’re bouncing around
or climbing something really steep with a low gas level.
