: New Power Steering Pump Leaking From Hole

I bought a new 70's Chevy power steering pump/reservoir and it started leaking from (what looks like) a hole in the back. On the back under the high pressure fitting there is a hole with some kind of cap in it that looks plastic. It seems to be leaking from that hole.

Probably a stupid question, but does anyone know what that "hole" is for?

For the return line?

No, the return line is connected to the fitting just above the HP fitting. This hole is below both of those and much smaller.

sounds like a weep hole, or a port for testing pressure. If its threaded put a plug in it, if its not, its probably a weep hole and you have an internal seal leak.

That's what I was thinking. It seems a little too big for a weep hole though.

I just figured some of the resident Chevy boys would know what it is.

Turns out the hole was for a mounting stud/bolt that wasn't being used in my application. It would steadily leak even when the truck wasn't started/moved for days. I put a bolt with some Teflon tape in there and it looks like it's going to hold.

was it drilled too deep? or designed to penetrate reservoir?

I'm not sure, but it was definitely leaking from there. When the truck sat for a week or more it would have no fluid left in it. The strange thing is that it didn't leak any faster with the truck running.

No pic, but if you're looking at the back of the reservoir can this hole was down and to the right of the HP port. It came with a black plastic cap in it.
