: Stretching TJ-Need Help!

Hey gang, this is my first post. The search didn't help much... I'm stretching my 00 TJ and need some help. I want to do this with longer arms in back and triangulating the uppers. It has the RE LA kit right now. I saw a pic of a red TJ with boggers (38's?) on MT classicII's, and it was flatfendered and cut. It looks just like what I want to do. Now I can't find that post or pic again! Anyone know who owns it or other SWB jeeps done this way? I need info on the suspension, and how long I can make the wheelbase without cutting the frame. I've considered moving the upper coil mounts back and going with shorter coils, or going with coilovers mounted on the outside of the frame. Were gonna move the gas tank up, cut the fenders on back, dump the track bar, etc. I'm going with full width D60's and 38's. Also, I'd like to know what everyone recommends for arm ends. I saw a post where someone said johnny joints all the way around. Would this be good on all 4 arms in back? 2 JJ's & 2 rubber bushings? I need all the info I can get. I've been reading about the LA placement, parralel arms, and all that. The RE arms aren't parallel in the back. I'm wondering if I should change that too... Oh- by the way, this jeep will continue to be a daily driver... Heck, I can't drive anything too small anymore, but you all understand that, right? TIA for all your help!!! Dirk

well it looks nothing of the sort now....thats from when it used to be somewhat TJ.

now it has custom frame, rockwells, TPI 350, blah blah blah....pretty much the only thing Jeep on it is the tub and even that is hacked all up pretty good...it looks more like this now....

Although I know you said you don't want frame/body work, here is another extendo TJ. I *think* Sunray built it. Definatly had sunray axles, along with lots of other goodies. Maybe some Texans on here know more about it, as I only BSed with the owner for a little while at DTC.

Here is my TJ set-up. I raised the tank, triangulated my upper arms and moved the axle back 2".

You can see here the upper spring mount had to be moved back to keep the spring from having an arc.

Here is a poser stance picture at Crawford's Camp ground at Tellico.

Hey Beast, got any more pics of the rear suspension? How'd ya do the front upper mounts? You angled them in, right?

Anyone else got more suspension info? Thanks! Dirk

Foothills 4x4 (http://www.foothills4x4.com/)

Click on the balck TJ and then check the menu bar on the left side for pics. Stretched 12" behind the door. Body work was easy in that area. Gave more room in the middle for long links and allowed for use of the factory position for coils (in the arch of the frame)

Thanks Beast! Hey, I don't know if ya got my e-mail a while back, but I'm wondering- did you mount the uppers in the same plane as before, just inboard? Are they the same length, or did you make them longer? How does it handle on the street?
Also- are you thinking about stretching? :D Thanks! Dirk

I used the RE upper arms in their original configuration. The mounts are just as shown in the pictures, inside the frame and closer to the axle then the lowers.

The jeep handles great on the street, its my DD for now so it has to. I am going to stretch the wheel base more then likely to 100-102" all of this will be done by moving the rear back another 5-7" using longer links and coilovers.

I really like Beast40's rear setup, I'm either going to do that or get crazy like the red tj. So if anybody knows how to get ahold of that guy please let me know.
