I prefer powder coated sheet metal with inlaid autometer guages.

This is the setup i have in my FJ but im sure you could do something similar that would fit in a mini trck dash.

I have considered a dash insert similar to that for my 83, but I would really love to just build a whole new dash and start over...

No i dont have an pics cause i dont have the $$$ to build one. Any way take your old dash out and trace a outline of it so you can bolt just that plate to the dash. once you get it to fit how you like it in the dash cut the holes and you might beable to use your current wiring just different sensors. Not for turn signal and high beam and such just go to radio shack and get some small 12v colored bulbs. On a 84-88 trucks you should be able to fit a 3-3/8 Tach and Speedo and 4 2-16 guages. Then find some where that makes speedo cables to attach to your new speedo. I want to do it to mine but $$$ is all thats holding me back.
