So its probably going to be a few years before I can build another crawler:(. Given this and the fun we have with the Rhino and the boys Dirtbike I am starting to think about getting me a quad.

The boy has been having a lot of trouble with the dirtbike(TTR50) in the sand, and he doesn't really spend enough time on it to get much better so we are looking at getting him a quad. The wife LOVES here rhino. So with the Rhino, a quad for the boy, and a quad for me we should have a nice family set of toys(I'm getting really bored being the passenger).

So what would be a good quad for me and the boy. He is 10, and medium to small sized. He still doesn't have the whole clutch shift thing down, but he can shift. I'm 6' about 240lbs.

What I would like is something that I could run around on desert roads, blast around on the lakebed, blast up the dunes, and take on long trips(maybe overnighters) in the mountains. Something that will do everything well, not necessarily do everything perfect.

Thanks - :D

Check out a 400ex or maybe a ltz 400. Just cut the power back when its his turn. My brother had a brand new blaster when he was 10.

If you are planning on doing overnighters more than likely you are gonna need a utility quad or if you want a sport quad you will have to do like me and make someone else carry your gear (your wife and her rhino).

your son: sport= Honda 250EX or similar Utility= in the 250-400 range

you: sport= Suzuki Z400 is good but might be small/underpowered so probly
a Yamaha Raptor 700 would be better

Utility= Suzuki Vinson 500 or Yamaha Grizzly 700

These are just examples there are many more options. IMO as far as quality and reliability goes Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha are pretty close and Polaris is getting better and there is also Can Am.

A 250ex has a semi-auto clutch. You have to shift, but you don't have to use the clutch if you don't want to, helped my sister learn.

That would be best for the boy.

Perfect.

There is plenty of room in the rhino to haul camping gear, even with the rear seat. :D
