The kingdom for the alternator (charging system) schematic for my 80 toy pickup. and the one that is in the 20r engine manual dosent do it. i have no voltage at the regulator and no way to figure what the hell is open the charge light relay is also not getting power and the alt fuse is good. Oh yea toyota dosent sell the electrical manual for rigs that old any more. if any one has the electrical schematic for the cahrging sys. please please please help ive tryed the dealership and toyotausa even went on ebay looking for the dam manual w/no luck.

Polar,
Check the fuseable links at the battery first,they always get corroded and appear ok ,check them with a voltmeter ohm meter.
If your charge lite is on and you can get to an Auto Zone they will check it for free. Remember yoou will be runing on just the battery so be careful to conserve electrical power,no headlites and radio.
If your alt is not charging at all,999999.999% of the time its just that the brushes have worn out,they can be replace easily if you can solder. They are a dealer item although i have found brushes at Pep Boys that worked also. They wear out just like any brush.
The regulator may be bad if you go into a lot of water,depending if its a old style or not . The newer reg's were just a circuit board type icu. The Brushes also can get stuck if you get into a lot of mud,it gets into the brush holder and when it dries the brushes stay where they are after a few mies of driving because the springs that push them in to the armater are not able to keep enough pressure on them because of the mud.
I also would check with the dealer for a wiring schematic,most have the older ones,and they can let you see it and make a copy of the alt circuit.
I am in AZ for the week or i would check my garage for the older manuals to see if i had one for you , when i get home next wek i'll check for you ,remind me.:)
