pipehitter155 10-20-2008, 08:04 PM fuckin christ are you guys gonna fuck next....get on with the build already..:flipoff2:
jdconti84 10-21-2008, 05:46 PM well I've ran into trouble before I got started, I was planning on moving my jeep over to the shop to get started on ripping the old axles out and found that I have got a major leak around the timing chain cover and I think a blown head gasket.
So here are my options tell me what you guys think I should do.
1- Say fuck it and go ahead and fix whats wrong and go ahead with the buid.
2-Build the old xj that I've been wheeling up until now (its got over 200,000miles) and I was planning on tearing it down after I build the wj.
3- Find somthing new to put my shit in, probably either a newer xj or tube buggy.
Thanks for any suggestions.
heepr 10-21-2008, 05:55 PM You're getting way ahead of logic here. I think you'll find that most here will not view minor engine problems or high mileage as obstacles to any build. Now the head gasket might be an excuse to go to a tube buggy, but does definitely not require you to. Build whatever rig you want to wheel most.
pipehitter155 10-21-2008, 06:46 PM personally and this is somebody who has dumped WAY TO FAWKIN MUCH $$$$ into his XJ....i wish i would've built a buggy...you get what you want without the unibody hindering anything...i know i know thats part of the fun of building an XJ, but it's also the pain in the ass...like heepr said build what you want or better yet what you feel is right...
jdconti84 10-22-2008, 04:24 AM Thanks
Preppi12 10-22-2008, 10:41 PM I'd like to see it built Conti! I've been thinking that I might build a WJ next.
If you decide to dump it, I'll take it and the atlas off you for a buck-fifty! lol... :)
See ya around!
XJ_ranger 10-22-2008, 10:45 PM well I've ran into trouble before I got started, I was planning on moving my jeep over to the shop to get started on ripping the old axles out and found that I have got a major leak around the timing chain cover and I think a blown head gasket.
OMG!!! that is like 6 hours of work to fix!
do you have any clue how many hours of extra work go into crappy stupid stuff that isn't fun when making a buggy?
Mounting gas and brake pedals, mounting steering columns, mounting floor pans, mounting skins, making tab after little tab after little tab... mounting gas tanks, mounting power steering reservoirs, mounting seats, mounting seat belts, mounting EVERY STUPID LITTLE THING...
It gets REALLY boring, REALLY quick...
pull the front fascia, the radiator, the harmonic balancer, the oil pan, and the timing cover... might as well do the rear main at the same time... timing cover gasket, harmonic balancer seal, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, flush the block with a garden hose while you have the radiator out, throw it all back on with some RTV, and call it 2 hours work...
pull the valve cover(s), the intake and exhaust manifolds, the heads, replace the gasket, re-install head(s), check valve clearances, new intake and exhaust gaskets, manifolds, valve cover gasket, valve cover...
Like $100 in parts, and like a Saturday if you're more focused on drinking than working...
jdconti84 10-23-2008, 05:32 AM Ok I think it does make more since to build the WJ, Thanks
Sorry Preppi I got an XJ that might be for sale real soon if your interested. :D
Its time for me to start collecting parts to build my d60 and 14bolt, you want me to give you a list of everything I need?
jdconti84 10-23-2008, 05:34 AM Oh yeah my tubing showed up, I'm gonna try to build an internal cage. I know this will be very difficult because of the huge dash in the WJ.
pipehitter155 10-23-2008, 07:20 AM Sawzall bitches!!!!!
hadfield4wd 10-23-2008, 07:29 AM Screw building a buggy. Just go buy a used one from the classifieds and call it good.
Johnny Quest 10-24-2008, 03:01 PM go big or go home!! its about time some dubs get a good hardcore treatment
Preppi12 10-24-2008, 04:52 PM Sorry Preppi I got an XJ that might be for sale real soon if your interested. :D
Nah... I like busted shit better. Reminds me of mine (usually). :mad3:
Talk with you soon.
jdconti84 10-24-2008, 08:26 PM This is not a pretty show jeep build, I'm building it to abuse it and I'm not afraid of a little body damage.

Preppi12 12-23-2008, 08:34 PM this thing looks great any updates?
He just ordered his 1350 yokes, input shaft and all new seals for his Atlas and Ballistic Fab hi-steer arms...all from MoonWorks OffRoad about a week ago. So even though he should have them now...he's on the road working for the next few weeks.
The gas tank was pulled a couple weeks ago so it can be raised through the floor.
HeavyMetalXJ 12-24-2008, 09:09 AM built wjs are awesome, few and far between...i will be watchin this one form to life

indy242003 01-07-2009, 08:51 PM Quit building it now before you end up broke and pissed off! Ask me how I know? Good luck and if I can be of help feel free to ask. Looks good so far.
jdconti84 01-08-2009, 04:29 PM I'm still hoping to be home around the first week of Feb. I can't wait to get back to work on it but the longer I work the more money I will have to blow on it when I get back. I want to have it done and ready to wheel for bigdogs main springfling.

jdconti84 03-12-2009, 05:05 PM I just got the atlas bolted in yestardy that thing was freakin heavy to install. I'm still trying to get it done for Bigdogs:D

Hey man, I've seen your WJ around mechanicsville, seen it at friday's on 360 a few times, VERY nice rig man. I have the red WJ with 4" LA and 32's. Anywho, decided to tear the WJ back down and part the lift out and build me an XJ. Your build looks awesome man, keep it up!
jdconti84 03-18-2009, 06:35 AM Thanks hopefully have it back on the road soon, let me know if you need any parts for your XJ build I have alot of stuff I'm looking to sell just havn't advertised anything yet.

jdconti84 03-26-2009, 08:03 AM Bumper almost done.http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q201/jdconti84/P1010013.jpghttp://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q201/jdconti84/P1010014.jpg
jdconti84 03-26-2009, 08:10 AM Here is what I did for the atlas twin sticks, I wanted them to stay in the stock 4wd shifter location but I didn't want to spend 300+dollars on cableshifters. So I tried using the linkage that came with the atlas but I just couldn't find away to make it work, I went to the local junk yard and found a wj and pulled the stock 4wd cable shifter. It took me about 5hours to make it work.http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q201/jdconti84/P1010006.jpg
jdconti84 03-26-2009, 08:15 AM With the help of moonworks offroad I used ballistic joints for my upperarms but I had to modify the claytons upper arms to make the ballistic joints work just a little bit of cutting and weldihttp://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q201/jdconti84/0313091207.jpgng and it fit perfect.
LSRGreg 03-26-2009, 08:20 AM nice work on the bumper.. best looking WJ one i have seen.

jdconti84 03-26-2009, 09:44 AM thanks I'm gonna try to finish it today I'll gey some more pics up tonight.

AQHACowboy 04-15-2009, 06:31 PM Nice WJ, I was wondering what year the D60 is out of?

That's pretty week, I wouldn't trust that.
My hardrive crashed so this is the only pic I have right now, too lazy to go snap a pic tonight.
6" channel, 3" pipe and some fabbing makes a pretty strong bucket. We cut the spring perch off.

NsTyFoX 11-28-2009, 08:51 AM nice build wj's look sick when their built up
jdconti84 11-29-2009, 06:01 PM I have wheeled it pretty hard for a while now and I have not had any issues with it.
Thanks
I'll try to get some new pics soon, I cut the back have off about 2 weeks ago (the deproach angle was killing me!!) and I am in the process of tubing it.

departure....
jdconti84 11-30-2009, 05:49 AM yeah did I spell it wrong or use the wrong word?
Basiclly I had to much body hanging out past the tires and it would hang up on every rock that I would drive over. The WJ's have somthing like 2ft of body behind the tires.
heepr 11-30-2009, 09:26 AM so the deproach was beyond reproach?
Be sure to post up some pics as you make progress with the tube.
greyzj93 11-30-2009, 09:55 AM I can vouch. Wheeled with him at harlan and it took a beating with no problems.
Post some pics of the chop.
jdconti84 12-26-2009, 05:03 PM http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q201/jdconti84/PC200395.jpg
jdconti84 12-26-2009, 05:05 PM sorry for the bad pic it was late and snowing when I took it, but you can get the idea of the direction im going in with it.
comanchefreak31 12-26-2009, 05:19 PM wtf did u do to that thing
WJGUY 12-26-2009, 11:28 PM wtf did u do to that thing
Looks like he used it, most wj owners have a better chance of getting door dings.
I like the new direction!
comanchefreak31 12-27-2009, 04:07 PM i think its ugly
jdconti84 12-27-2009, 08:19 PM its not done yet I just started the tube work and still got more body to cut.
