: axle forward
moved my front axle forward 2 1/4 inch, i fitted mazda springs to the front and they measure about 19.5 on the front side.
i did a search and could not find any info on moving the axle forward over 2 inches with stock steering, has anyone done it?
i currently have it all working sweet but want to redrill the pearches for another 1.5 inch but think that this will put the steering geometery up to shit as the drag link will be too short and i know i will have to remove the steering bump stops on the box.
i searched and couldnt find jack so maybe someone has advice or a link.
Thanks

miniyota 08-08-2002, 06:57 AM measure twice cut once and burn it all back together!
i cut mine the ground both ends it to a point and lit up some 7018 rod and went to town. put a sleeve over the welded portion and welded it on. hasn't broken yet. almost ripped the steering box off last weekend thou. do a crossover of high steer for good steering though.:D
mmmmm kinda wanted to stay away from welding the steering parts, how far foward is your diff?

TNToy 08-09-2002, 06:49 AM How do you people build 4x4s? You don't ever want to weld anything... :D
welding something and welding something stuiped like steering parts are two different things.
so anyone have any real solutions?

bearitbilt 08-09-2002, 05:06 PM So, I'm assuming that you have retained your stock push pull steering system. If it still turns the same distance both directions I would be amazed. Anyway, are you saying that you would like to move it even farther to the end result of 3.5 inches? If so, i think even with hi-steer it will be an inappropriate angle with the crossover drag link, as it will not run parallel with the tie rod. Moving your box that far forward to match the drag link to the tie rod will be extremely difficult as you will probably run into some issues with the frame (bod mounts etc.) If you are not running crossover, but are moving your axle that far forward for clearing very large tires, you are probably asking for trouble anyway. Good luck. Maybe just stick with the two inches. Get some pics up, it would be cool to see them.
4x4man 08-09-2002, 08:42 PM ya,,,,,just drive it over here and ill use my new mig to weld it up.just say fawk it and buy a car,,thats all you need,,,,,hehehe
Nic are you still trying to clear those 44" Boggers ?
I reckon you should stick with the 42s at least they work and dont rub on anything :D

thanks for the info, i didnt want to run large tyres, just 35's, but with the axle that far forward the 35's would sit pretty much level with the front of the truck, i was working on my truck today and i think another concen would be the fenders, lights, and bumper but i can cut them away to suit.
thanks for the info.

Nic i`d just stick with the 2 inches you have now. I think that you would have all sorts of problems going that far forward. For one think about where the perches will be sitting on the arch of the spring. You`d have to rotate the housing to fix it plus the standard steering wouldn`t work to well.
Just my thoughts.

and who asked you for them cock breath??
but the spring pearch angle wont be to much different to what it is now cause of the shape of the springs.
