That is controlled by your kickdown linkage, you can adjust that and see if it helps.

ahhh ya lol thats not what i mean,, thats adjusted corecty... but say your doing about 70mph and you smash the gas the transmission will not down shift bust say your doing 60 and you smash the gas it will down shift and if you hold it, it will aventuley up-shift at a given speed to prevent engine over revving... there is the same problem with the 2 to 1 downshift

or say your standing still in D and you floor it is ther a way to make the WOT up shift a little later in the RPM band?

Okay, so it's adjusted correctly, yes I understand, however maybe if you adjusted incorrectly it would be more to you liking?

Put a 4speed in it. It's not hard and fairly cheap.

I vote for adjusting the kickdown linkage. A little adjustment goes a long way.
Have you considered getting inside the governor and changing the springs?

I don't think that is a kick down linkage on a 727. More like a pressure linkageI had one adjusted wrong and the tranny slipped/grabbed and shook. Three turns on the end link and it was fine.

What is the proper way to adjust it from scratch?

You could look into a shift kit?

Nope that is the kick down linkage. Having swapped 2 727 to lokar kickdown cables and adjusted them, even when out of adjustment I never saw the symptoms you are describe. I have seen those in the two tranny's we trashed in Rockscout before we went full manual VB. As from adjusting it from scratch, I looked in 2 different IH service manuals and came up with nothing, so we just adjusted them where the "felt right" and have been rolling ever since.

That link does control line pressure in your transmission and adjusting line pressure will change your shift points. A good manual will show how to adjust it properly. If you vary from the proper adjustment you may or may not be damaging your trans. If you want custom shift points get a full manual valve body and shift it yourself.:smokin:

Like I said I turned the adjustment end three turns and it was a huge differance... I got the info from John D at BB. So if three turns, three threads makes that much differance there has to be a very close tolerance to set it from scratch.

These guys are supposed to be 727, 904 and 518 gurus, they show how to use the late model 518 with overdrive (on a dodge) About half way down this long ass page it says this about your shifting problem.

#5V. 42RH / RE, 47RH / RE, 904, 727 Throttle Valve Kit. Fixes shift timing concerns and throttle buzz, cures late 2-3 upshifts, reduces oversensitive 3-2 downshifts. Hardened steel throttle valve kit restores worn valve body, works best in heavy-duty / towing applications. Repairs excessive throttle valve and sleeve wear. This Sonnax repair kit both salvages valve body and restores throttle control. Cost $38.00

EDIT: Here's a link from the Mopar guys on adjusment.
