Hey guys, please don't rip me apart but I've searched and cannot find the answer to this question. I am looking for a NV4500 for my LS swap and found a guy who thinks he has one. He says it's a 5 speed out of a late 70s - early 80s 3/4 Chevy. Chevy did not use a 5 speed in their HD pickups until the late 80s with the 4500 right? Could this be another tranny? I know they used the Getrag, but that was for light duty. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

another possibilty is a clark 5 speed. they are a custom instal and pretty rare but it is done.

He could be talking about a 465 which technically is a 5 speed since reverse is a different ratio than the rest.:lmao:

Sorry, I know that was of absolutely NO help.

Sadly enough, that same thought crossed my mind while I was talking to him... :D

Is there any easy way to identify those?

If its a Clark, you will know it because they are bigger. Most Clarks use a 2 ton bell housing, with an adapter plate that bolts to the block first.

The NV4500 didn't come around until 1993. Prior to that there were the 4 speed SM465's and the NV3500/Getrag/MG5 depending on what you choose to call it.
