Have a 2bbl holley on the 304 in my 74 cj5. Engine runs when ya force feed it gas with a pop bottle but not on it's own. Leaking a bit at front of carb. Thinking the accelerator pump is hooped? I've heard that the holley is notoriously poor for off road and may just swap it out rather than put a lot of time into messing with floats etc. I've done the searches and found very good info for the 2100 but it's all 258 related. Is the 2100 as good a performer on the 304 as it is on the 258 or should I be looking for a different model carb?
this is for a bush rig that'll see minimum pavement - only as much as it takes to get to the trailhead :)
TIA...please type slowly as I'm not very carb smart :flipoff2:

The 2100 is one of the best off-road carbs there is. It can be tuned to run on is side if need be.
if your doing searches for this carb serach for the motorcraft 2100.

Hmmm, that's the same search I did before but this time it gave me an extra hit that addressed the 304 question vice the 258. Looks like I be stickin a 2100 on this thing :D
Can't wait for the commissioning run on this thing later in the month. I'm sure there will be enough items to debug without asking for trouble by keeping a carb which is famous for being a belching pig.
Thanks much Steve

Isn't that the same bolt pattern as the motercraft 2 bbl?
Ford 2bbl motercraft has very good offroad manners.

If you are having to pour fuel into the carb to keep it running you probably need a new fuel pump..

Yeah, I wuz thinking of replacing that just on spec as they are cheap and it's probably the original. Still think there must be more to it though as the pump is getting at least enough fuel up the line to make the carb leak at the front near the accel pump.
Like I said though, I'm carb challenged so all advice is definitely welcome:)

Of course you're not finding a lot of stuff about putting the 2100 on the 304... it's standard issue.
Go to the local yard, look for a mid 70s-92 SJ - If it's got a V8, it's got a 2100 (or some derivative). Only exception would be if it's got a 401, then it might have the 4v version, and that wouldn't do you much good.
Or you can check here (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=14) for someone selling one.
