: Steering Arm

Necessity has required me to upgrade my 76 FJ40 from a trail rig only to a daily driver. Over the past couple of weeks, Ive noticed a bad vibration in the steering at between 40-60MPH. Lower than that or higher than that its fine. However, the front drivers side tire has began to wear on the inside at an alarming rate - ruined the tire.

As an admitted newbie, I searched some POR posts and began looking at the steering arm bolts (thanks Nolen - I am getting my red star today) and low and behold, three were loose and one was sheared off.

Any ideas on where to get the replacement. I took it in for an alignment - dont want to ruin two more new BFG 35 MT/R and had the guy check around for the bolt. Said it was impossible to find one ? Can I just drill it out - and replace or is it more difficult than that? double-threaded metric... blah blah:confused::shaking:

Its 76 FJ-40 with Saginaw PS...

get the stud from a wrecking yard, sometimes they are on the ground, if someone too enthusiastic has got the birf out, and the little parts are everywhere

I would get the stud kit and replace all of them while you are in there.

BTW- Are you aware of the Lone Star Land Cruisers? www.lslc.org

Cheers,

Butch --

Actually I came to one meeting a few months ago, (feb?) with the beast... yellow 76FJ40 - but have been unable to attend since either being out of town or having mech breakdowns - you probably recall my posts about electrical problems (alternator, wiring, voltage regulator, starter,....... ) :mad2: :mad3:

Anyway, if anyone has a stud, conewasher & nut, they'd be willing to part with/$ell - I will try to be at this next thurs meeting at Papas BBQ.... if not, SOR may have what I need.

That stud kit is to hold the spindle onto the knuckle, not the steering arms to the knuckle...

Some head bolts from a chevy 350 will work depending on how thick it is.:D
