First, my buddy Bmax is building up a reasonably stock Scout 80 (someone swapped in a Ford 250 motor with 2wd C4 and SOA'd the D27 axles for a scary ride)

I'm thinking CJ7 axles (Widetrack) would be a good "upgrade" for this pavement pounder. The 9" drum brakes barely slow it down (especially with 30" tires!) which was made worse by the PO swapping in a dual servo master (MANUAL!) with a larger bore (1" vs 7/8")
I figure a Ford C4/Spicer 20 should work okay to get it 4x4 fairly easily. Any other ideas?

On the Travelall, aside from the low RPM, high torque BG241 6 cyl, it runs well enough, but I think I hurt the divorced tcase or rear axle (we recently got a 2wd '66 T/A (304 BW auto) for parts, so I'm going to swap the driveshaft if it'll fit and test the rear axle for noise again.
It would be a good project, but he lacks $$$ to do both rigs, so they will be for sale soon unless I can find a way of doing it economically.

How about FSJ stuff, maybe Wagoneer. Probably cheaper and easier to find.

The dana 20 was supposedly the only transfer case to be mated to the C4, although at least around here, bronco dana 20's are a dime a dozen. The tricky part may be finding the adatper/output shaft.

Biggest prob is width. The Original Scout is barely wider than a CJ5 narrow track.

On a serious note, they did in Scout II but those are wider. (like comparing an Early Bronco to later full size Bronco) That's the next option.

Really:laughing::rolleyes: Thanks for coming over her and adding to our knowlege base. Maybe you should research scout axle widths before you make any more stupid analogies.

?? Guys do the axle swaps all the time, but they are a wider axle (I guess not that much) Yes, I don't know that much about IH axles, but I do know the motors, trans and how to upgrade brakes.
