im thinkin about puttin a cummins in my truck with a 5 speed. i wanna use my doubler so im curious if there is an adapter for a nv 4500 to a np 203. just curious if anybody knows

Advanced adapters makes one.

For mine, I had the face drilled and tapped. I used a 23 spline output on the NV4500 and 23 spline input on the NP203. I used the Dodge NV4500 tailhousing.

is there enough depth to an th400/np203 input to use a 32 spline nv4500 output shaft?

ok cool. the nv 4500 i would be using is i beleive a 29 spline which comes with the cummins

actually yeah fuck the 29 spline. ill change the output shaft to a 32 spline

I can give you a measurement of the depth if you'd like. The 23 spline np203 had the least amount of stickout. The 32 spline NP203 was second in amount of stickout.

Using the 32 spline nv4500 is possible... I just don't recall what tailhousing the guy used and whether the guy cut the shaft back.

So, you looking to do something like this? AA parts. The 203 needs to be flipped around to bolt to the back of the 4500

why does it need to be flipped around? Sorry, but i might have missed that part? The np203 has a flat face and should have enough area to drill into the case to allow fitment. Is the NV4500 output shaft too short to make it work?

school me! I wanna learn.

Grump, what he meant was in the picture, the NP203 isn't shown in the mating direction. What is shown is the ass end of the NP203 facing the ass end of the NV4500.

I did a search for "NV4500 NP203" and got this thread:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=539773&highlight=nv4500+np203
That thread linked to pictures shown at:

The tranny pictures are about 2/3s of the way down.

In his case, he drilled and tapped the face of the NP203 to bolt to the Chevy tailhousing. He then used the 32 spline NP203 input gear. He used the Chevy 32 spline NV4500.

In my case, I drilled and tapped the face of the NP203 to bolt to the Dodge tailhousing. I then used the 23 spline NP203 input gear. I used the 23 spline NV4500 output. I paid someone to do the drilling and tapping.

I don't believe there is a "simple" method to adapt the 29 spline NV4500 output shaft to the NP203 short of custom cutting an input NP203 gear.

For a bolt on solution, Advanced Adapters makes one... which is what is shown in the picture above:D

Here are two pictures.

The top is the one I've drilled, tapped, and studded. It has the Dodge 23 spline input. It has the least amount of input gear stickout beyond the NP203 face.

The lower is a run of the mill Turbo 400 32 spline input.

In both pictures, the tape measure is hooked on the inside of the splines.

The Dodge version of the NV4500 tailhousing is shorter than the Chevy version by an inch or maybe two... I forget which. A search here will reveal the answer because I asked and got the answer on pirate:grinpimp:

Just to finish fleshing out the NP203 input gear selection on Chevys:
Turbo 350 version is 27 spline and from what I recall it is a hair longer than the Turbo 400 one shown below.
SM465 version is 10 spline and is the longest input gear. It also has a habit of wallowing out:(

No idea on the ford input other than it being 31 spline. Haven't had one in my possession.

Thank you for a very in depth reply and for adding tech to the thread. I learned something today.

Actually, if you look at the pic at the 203--on the left side (which is the mating side to the 4500) there is a steel plate that has the mounting foot on it. That plate bolts to the 203 ''bolt pattern". The steel plate was also drilled for the round 6 pattern that I put studs into, instead of using regular grade 5 bolts. The Alumninum piece is, (I think) 1'' thick to make up for the distance in spline engagement. On the back of the 4500 was the original 241/208 adaptor that was removed and replaced with a different adaptor (shorter) provided from AA. All bolt together----It is all 32 spline
