the only difference I know of is on the left rear of the block (driver rear). The 8V says G16a the 16V says G16B.

i have a 16v block that i am using as an 8v. the interchange is straight across, so long as you replace the pistons. the post is in this (http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=639274) thread, you didn't search hard enough.

btm end is the same! water jackets are the same oil galley is the same. the big changes are the head. and some compression i believe. oh and the markings on the block. the 8v has some way cool shit for it to get rid of the crap carb. there are some things coming out of the 16v to swap to a side draft set. geekocycles has some way cool intake stuff now. you can build a 1.6l 8v with high comp pistons a decked head and a god cam, then use the side draft cv carbs and BAM you got 150+hp.
