i guess its from the 50-60's.
it has a broken stock :(
it has a match book in as a magazine

it looks shootable if i had the stock fixed. hell i could probably shoot it with the stock broken

so. find a stock?
make a stock outta 2x4?
 now what?

btw, the guy had a colt AR15 he bought in 197something. it is a A1 (looks like a vietnam gun) he said he had to install a new FCG or something to not make it FA..... so how much would a gun like that go for? it had the old skool plastic front grip/rear buttstock, and no detatchable handle.

The only way that makes sense is if he missed the 86 or whatever the fuck registration cutoff, and had to make it semi only. Seeing how it wasnt commonfor those to float around before then either, it sounds like fresh bs.
Sorry im drunk, but people love to tell FA tales

i dunno, i held it and was just saying what he told me from what i remember. he bought it new (i think)

i didnt have the forward assist thing. i dont remember seeing the little spring loaded flapper thing over the bolt. he popped the pin out and hinged it forward and showed me a sear or something in there that he said he had to take out to make it semi-auto. i dunno anything about AR's sorry.

I found a vietnam era m16/ar15 friday night for $575 (triangle shaped hand guard)

Just because it has a triangle shaped handguard doesn't make it vietnam era. A lot of people are doing "slicksides" and "retro" AR builds these days...

this was definately not a new gun by any means. you could just see it was old......

so the serial number on this colt is like 9,XXX something. i guess that a low serial number right? maybe he said he bought it in the late 60's.....

so im going to let the PBB OSR to decide what to do with this little guy.

pics:

a few beers in me decided to take this pieceashit outta the safe and look @ it.

i unwrapped the 30+ year old tape off it and lookied at it.
i wonder how old that box of matches are
the trigger gard is broken.
those flappie things under the rear sight are advertising slips or something. meh.

so the stock is fucking trashed. someone tried to glue it, but it obviously didnt hold.

so i can try to make this stock work again, or i "make" a stock out of.... something

no, this one is gonna be free. whatever i have laying around is going to be made into a stock, or repair this one. no money is to be put into this one

and if it pisses me off, its going somewhere.

i mean i can get a new stock for it for 60 bucks, but what fun is that when the gun isnt even worth that

I can't really tell where exactly the stock is busted, but someone on here recently put theirs back together with some dowels and epoxy or glue. If yours fits back together nicely that is an option. Otherwise put a splint on that sumbitch and wrap it in duct tape.

It ain't that bad. Hell, go get some fiberglass resin and BATT insulation and see what you can do. :D

After you rigidize it back to stability, make an el cheap-0 target stock. Affix some 1" split round Poplar moulding to the stock to build up the fore end and palm swell. Again, mold/shape it with some fiberglass resin. Next, weld some Rockcrusher steel rail to it, Duracoat, and mount an airgun scope to it.

If it all fails, you can GB'er for something else. Even after all that work, its accuracy might be worse than before you started. The main objective for such a production would be honing of one's skills as a $$$ return on your time/effort would be  .

Here's what one can do with some fiberglass and insulation.

if the pieces fit together really good just get some good glue like pro-bond or gorilla glue. a good glue job will be stronger then the rest of it.

Ive owned a Mossberg 340K since the 60s. I still shoot it and its taken thousands of small game from starlings to a few close range coyotes.
You still can get parts for them also. My firing pin broke 10 yrs ago and I silver soldered it, then found a parts joint online and got a new one.
I have over 800K rounds through it. Shoots like a charm and will take the 22 short,Long & LR.

Looks like that gun was used in a crime...

Like it was used to beat the windows out of a car.
I bet it is a paratroopers model.
Back in the day when they threw the gun out of the back of the plane, then parachute after it.

I'd probably left it just like that and kept it for a conversation piece.
I've seen some booty fabbed gun stuff, but nothing like that all on one gun.

I say you make a stock out of a 2x4. And make zero effort to make it look like a stock.

I'm picturing a thumbhole, a cutout for the reciever/triggerguard/magazine... And that's it. A rough board with a barrel sticking out of it. :grinpimp:

Bonus points for using a Home Depot stud... and leaving the blue paint and the little stapled-on-barcode on the butt of the stock. :D

Halogrinder
05-11-2009, 07:30 AM
i was thinking of doing something like that.... or just getting a old crutch, and taping the entire thing to it with the action sticking between the pipes.... including leaving the rubber snubby on the end of it near the end of the barrel

i guess this is gonna be a single shot, who needs a magazine hole when it doesnt have a magazine

Not entirely related, but kinda...

Local funshop has a Ranger .22lr  for $75 that I'm gonna go offer $50 for today.

The trigger is all fubarred. It's sticcking out to the side, outside of the trigger guard. Also, a few random times when I took it off of safe it would "fire". I looked at it Friday and thought "this thing is a peice of shit!" now I'm thinking "hmmm, something to fawk around with!"

or parts!

Got a free gun myself today. Mossberg 385KB - 20ga. bolt-action shotgun with a vari-choke on it. Been sitting in my boss's attic for God-knows how long. No mag but I can still buy them. Crappy gun that couldn't have cost $50 when it was new. Good truck/trunk/tractor gun and you can't beat the price.

.22 Was $5-7 per 550 round brick for a long time. Let's be conservative (considering half of this would have been shot 22 years ago ) and assume a cost of $0.005 per round.

.005 x 800,000 is only four thousand dollars. :p

Random note: I've spent approximately $4,250 on 9mm ammo since I began shooting competitively in February of '07. Most of that was factory ammo, and that's a *very* vague figure.

Ive put over 2k shells through it in a day easily. Ive also spent more on ammo than the gun is worth. I still use it, last week I put 1100 rounds through it at the ranch, plinking, p-dogs and at the junk piles. I bought ammo when it was much less than $6 per 550 pack and still have 90k 22lr in my supply racks.
My highest round a week was 3890 rounds on a ground squirrel shoot.
All Ive ever replaced was the firing pin. Bore is still perfect....:smokin:

The only guys I know that can shoot those kinds of numbers shoot FA's. I can do a brick in a sitting but that's just once every few months.
On another note, a thanks to Gomer for the link to www.ammoclip.com . I have a 640K that I have been trying to get spare magazines for since I got it for my birthday in 1974. They actually had them! I ordered a couple for my Marlin 917VS also. (the 640k is the .22 mag version of the 340k).
