WHAT KIND OF LIGHTS ARE YOU ALL RUNNING ON YOUR FRONT BUMPERS? I WANT TO GET SOME BRIGHT ASS PENCIL BEAMS SO I CAN SEE WAY FAR AHEAD OF ME WHEN IM CRUISING AND HAVE ENOUGH LIGHT TO BOUNCE OFF STUFF AND LIGHT THE AREA AROUND ME A LITTLE WHEN WHEELING. I'M LOOKING AT THE HELLA 500 SERIES CAUSE THEIR NOT TOO PRICEY, BUT IM NOT SURE THEIR GOING TO BE BRIGHT ENOUGH. ALSO, WHAT EXPERIENCE DOES ANYONE HAVE WITH RUNNING PENCIL BEAMS INSTEAD OF WIDE BEAMS? THANKS, MATT

EDIT: I'M ALSO GOING TO BE RUNNING CHEAP ASS TRACTOR LIGHTS FOR ROCK LIGHTS SO THE PERIPHRIAL LIGHT IS NOT THE BIG OF A FACTOR. :)

500's are good, I have them on my cruzah, but my buddy has the el cheapo 130 watt ones from wal-mart (blazers I think). They are direct copies of the KC's, and those suckers throw some serious light!

I've got 4-5 pairs of those cheapies from my early days....they housings and reflectors rust out after 2-3 years....I really outta just toss them out....

The KC's on my pickup (fogs) have stayed in great shape for 7 years now...did get one reflector replaced, but they warrantied it, no receipt and no questions.

IMO, spend for longevity as much as anything.

I have a set of PIAA 1000X Superwhite "Ricer lights" and holy crap they are bright.

I also have a set of cheap ass wal mart "KC" lights which are pretty bright, however I will be replacing them with a real set of KC lights that my brother gave me for my birthday. :D

I have IPF fogs on my front bumper of my FJ40 and PIAA 510 fogs plus IPF 900's on my FZJ80. I figure I don't need too much else since both trucks have relayed headlamp harnesses and upgraded bulbs (IPF H4's in 80/110W on the 40 and 55W std w/IPF HIR-3 hi-beam in 130 W on the 80).

Can't ever have too much light when wheeling/driving :D

Before they both got et by trail hazards, I had 2 round Bosch withs w/100 watt bulbs. One was the pencil beam and one was a wide beam. Together they covered my close and long distance viewing.

I have the Bosch's and the Hella 3000s. The Hella's are nicer. One is a flood and one is a pencil beam. Mixing really makes for some nice lighting. I also run some no name H4 headlights with 55/65 bulbs and that helps as much as anything. Mofoco (VW Specialist, I think www.mofoco.com) sells the Bosch's really cheap. I think like $63.00 with shipping is what I paid. They will sell them with 100 watt bulbs or 55 watt bulbs. I replaced mine with 130 watt bulbs. The local Range Rover dealer gets like $300 for the same Bosch lights. The Hella 3000s were in the $250-300 range. You need to be careful with the Hella 500s as they have a plastic housing, if you get crazy with bulbs and go too big they will melt. I may have run 100 watt bulbs in those at one time, but that was in a rally car and speed helps cool the lights. Their optics are really good for the $50-60 range of lights. The slim mount is also nice so you can tuck them in close to the body where they won't get hammered on the trail. I think the key to good lighting is not only the reflector and the aiming but also the wiring. Don't do a cheesy wiring job or your baby will go up in flames. Also, make sure your alternator is up to the task. Two 130 watt bulbs draw about 22 amps. Good Luck!
