Are you looking at Toyota LC (FJ80)? That would be a sweet axle.

some had rear 44's if they had the towing package, but none had a front Dana 44

Wrong! South American XJs had them as a factory option.

The last time I was overseas in France, I took a look at an XJ in Nice and it had a factory D44 front too. Good luck getting one here though.

That's the first i'v heard of one in Europe, but i dont doubt it.

I just checked Currie's site, they took the ad down. They bought the XJ export 44 front axle "overruns" from Dana that were still in this country.

I'v also talked to someone who works for Dana, there are crated front 44's in a warehouse in South America, but we cant find the location of this warehouse.

However, this front 44 is not worth looking for in my opinion. It's all D30 out from the Diff. You'd be better off swapping a Waggy or Ford HP inder your XJ.

Exactly! This is the same D44 front that the new rubicon wranglers have. Junk! Just a D30 on crack. Same outers and everything. At least build your own D44 or 9" front and have real hubs.

Just FYI,

There was a fellow at our summer Jambo with a TJ from New Hampshire, that had that "export" front 44. He ordered it up from Drivetrain Direct. Now, he said they said it came from Canada - but I KNOW that's an error - coz they were never offered in Canada. But, if one really wanted one, DTD might have one or be able to source one. But I'm with the others, a Ford RCD44 would be a much better option.

here's another Q relating to the D44 rears found stock in XJs..

are the spring pads further apart than those found on YJs?
figured that if they were close enough they'd be awesome candidates for SOA swaps.. already perched and everything.. if not.. it would be a small matter to re-weld on the perches.. already the right width...

D30 seems to hold up just fine with our 35-37's down here. only real issue has been the u-joints, but the 297x is the same as a D44 isn't it? but I do have to say I fawkin hate these full time hubs. EB D44 swap won't be soon enough though.:flipoff2:
