I'm getting ready to build a lowrider XJ and what I'm wanting to do in the rear is run the factory leafs with a missing link shackle system that will net about 4-5" of lift while sitting. I'll be running a full width 8.8 (65" WMS) and 36" TSL's on 3" BS wheels. I know I will have plenty of width to keep the tires out of the "frame" at full flex. I'm just trying to stay with the factory leafs due to the fact they flex so well. Does this sound like a setup worth trying or should I look at something different? Criticism? Opinions? BTW the front will be running a Rockkrawler 3 link with 4.5 RE coils on a full width HP44.

run a traction* bar cause those springs aren't going to last

Why not just get a decent set of springs that flex well. The missing link shackles never work right and unload at bad times. Either way you'll need a traction bar.

I've got a set of RE 4.5" leafs and 2" shackles that I was happy with on my last XJ but I was just looking at doing something different. I've also got a set of 63" Chev's. Would it be worthwhile to try to run those? With the 4.5" leafs, 2" shackles, 4.5" coils and short arms I had 48" of flex at the bottom most point on the front tire till I lifted a rear on flat ground. Not a bad steup but I was just looking at other options. I start looking at parts and my mind gets wandering and I come up with all sorts of things to try.
