For my crawler project I've been searching for a NP205 to put behind my TH350 and 4.3L Vortec. After scouring salvage yards we think we found one but I'm not sure if it's a 205 or a 208. It had the two shift forks going in and was huge like the 208 but it had no tag (the only one we found that didn't). I did however find a few 208's but didn't pay attention to them so now I have no idea what we found. Can anyone help me with this, the web hasn't been much help. Also, is there a problem with using a 208? Will the chain drive hold up to my drivetrain and rockwells? For that matter would the Willys T18 be a decent transfer case? I already have one of those is why I ask. FYI I did try searching, but I suck at it.

http://www.high-impact.net/transmission_and_gear/Tcase_NP205.htm

They also cover the 208 on this site.

All I did was google "205 Transfer case".....search harder next time. :p

Thanks, it seems that I can never come up with the right search string. I found that site but it didn't help with visually identifying the tcase. All the research I've done shows that the 205 is the only one with the two shift forks linked to the one shift lever. Is that accurate?

A 205 is cast iron, a 208 is aluminum, and a 203 has an iron front and aluminum rear. Search the for classified forums here, alot of people include pics of things they sell.

Was there ever a 208 or 203 with the two shift forks? I'm assuming that's what they are called, they are two posts that the single shifter moves.
